Wainwright's stat line: LINK

Kershaw: LINK
W L W-L% ERA G GS GF CG SHO SV IP H R ER HR BB IBB SO HBP BK WP BF ERA+ FIP ? WHIP H9 HR9 BB9 SO9 SO/W

10 2 .833 1.85 13 13 0 2 1 0 87.1 64 18 18 4 12 0 115 0 1 4 335 190 1.49 0.870 6.6 0.4 1.2 11.9 9.58

admittedly i am biased towards Wainwright but i do like the ERA statistic for pitchers and his is the lowest in the majors and he has pitched more innings with 1 more Shut out. However, Kershaw's record is better and there isn't much of a difference in ERA and has more strikeouts.

I don't envy Mattheny in this situation as if he picks Kershaw he risks offending his own players and if he picks Wainwright he will catch flak for picking his own player.

At the end of the day i think he will pick Wainwright but Kershaw may deserve it. Kershaw certainly gets more pub being in LA and is looked at as a more dominant pitcher IMO

ETA: sorry those stat line look like shite i tried my best, use the links

I think it's a little overblown. You can't really go wrong with either choice. That said, I'd rather not offend my own guy and go with Wainwright.

Wainwright, not a difficult choice.

Difficult to go one way or another. Both have been terrific this year. One starting over the other should not be taken personally.

He could always pick Wainwright and fall back on the "Kershaw missed the early part of the season" thing. That said, I'd pick Kershaw.

36 consecutive scoreless innings. I would say he is the better choice right now. But that's my opionion.

As a coach you got to start your guy.

Mostly because Matheny has the decision... but also because 18 GS > 13 GS, with other stats being relatively even.

who cares? clayton is already almost unanimously held as the best pitcher in baseball. he doesn't need to prove anything by starting the all star game. both have been great this year

In 43 fewer innings. If Kershaw doesn't have the DL stint, it's a runaway for him. With the DL stint, I think you go Wainwright (even if Matheny wasn't the one making the call).

Kershaw obviously. He's not a Cardinal and frick the Cardinals. Everyone hates them and their whiny arse players.

Didn't think about that was just reading straight off the stat line. Makes sense cause I figured Kershaw would have a significant lead in Ks.

Personally I go Kershaw, while Wainwrifht has been very good Kershaw is the best pitcher in baseball. The fans want to see him and he is actually just as deserving.

Plus it is the All-Star game so they only pitch 2 innings tops

First was gonna say Waino, but decided Kershaw.

Just let him start and get his consecutive streak going early on and fall back on Waino. Might be superstitious here, but think Waino would handle coming out the pen better.. Plus Kershaw is still the best, he was hurt for the beginning of the season so not sure about this complete games stat mentioned..

This reminds me of a few years ago when people were debating whether Roy Halladay or Jair Jurrjens should start the ASG. Forget the numbers over the first half of a season, I want to see the guy who is the best pitcher. Obviously Wainwright is no Jurrjens and is amazing in his own right but it's Kershaw for me.
