Cleveland will host 2016 Republican National Convention

GOP announcing it now on Fox News. Cleveland beat out Dallas. Ohio is vitally important but I'd rather have seen the RNC be in Dallas. I guess Manziel & LeBron can give the keynote speech for Mitt....
The Democrats will be deciding on their site in the next month. The contenders are Birmingham, Pheonix, Columbus, Philadelphia, and Brooklyn. Excited to see Bham get included but no way in Hell will it get chosen...It offers nothing of value to the Democrats and don't think they would want to have a convention in the BJCC.
In the end, conventions do very little to decide a state.

I know Ohio is important to the election, but putting it in Cleveland seems like a big mistake.

My money would be on Philly, with Phoenix being a potential candidate if they see an increase in Hispanics causing reliably red Arizona to flip.

Well Cleveland is the mistake by the lake, so you may be on to something.

The Democrats are going to answer by selecting Columbus for their host city. Going to be an all out blitz for the state of Ohio!

Hopefully it won't get too steamy in Cleveland

PA is blue and I don't see that changing. Pheonix seems like the smart choice if they want to keep going after the Hispanic votes.

Should've been Cincinnati or Columbus. Terrible...

That would not surprise me, but I suspect that go with Brooklyn. I could also see them going to Phoenix trying to make immigration the central issue of the election.

I have always wondered if it really matters where the conventions are. Does anyone really change their vote based on this?

It'll be nice to see Lebron playing at home too.

You meant Bobby Jindal, right?

I don't think it changes votes, but I could see it rallying votes. But 2012 says otherwise.
Romney lost Florida and Obama lost North Carolina in 2012.

Dems will wait until after the November elections to announce their selection. Purely political choice for them this time around, and they want to know where they stand in the overall scheme of things after the 2014 elections before committing.

Could be the 8th straight time Republicans lose the state their convention was in.
