Has any plan been more destined to fail than this one? $27 a gram, in a state where black market, top-shelf, is currently selling for $8 a gram?

If the distribution channels are there for people to easily get the good nugs for $8, I don't see why anyone would go with schwag for $27. After the initial rush, they will be forced to lower their prices because the black market will not die with that price difference

so it costs more than it does here?
I thought the point was to undercut the black market.
A plant has a huge ROI at $5 a gram. So this is just stupid.

That was supposed to be the point. $27 grams might get a couple tourists, that's about it.

I was just in Oregon. I hooked up with an old colleague for dinner and we burned a spliff in the parking lot beforehand.

He was telling me that you cannot command more than seventy-five dollars per quarter, regardless of quality.

Yep. $250-$300 an OZ is pretty standard. The legal stuff is being taxed at every level from grower to buyer. It works out to 80% or so while it's 20% in CO.

Considering drug dealers don't pay rent on their mother's back room and businesses have overhead, I'd expect a little price increase initially.

It's not the overhead, it's the 80% tax. Dispensaries have the same overhead and it's $8 a gram.

That's high. Non residents in CO pay that much a gram.

Or so I heard.

Black market dealers and legal dispensaries with store fronts do not have the same overhead. A 100% retail markup isn't out of line for an in-demand product.

I'll pay extra not to have to worry about the law. You also get a business that should be standing behind it's product. They are subject to consumer laws I would hope.

When is that going to make it's way down here?

It is when you can pay a third of the price on Craigslist.

Cheap weed is easily available and these new businesses are trying to attract new customers from a base that is by and large happy with their current source. You can't do that with an inferior product at 3 times the price. Again, it's not overhead it's the 80% tax. The state got greedy (no surprise). If they don't drastically reduce the tax, these stores WILL fail.

its going to succeed as they will adjust.

Retail sales in CO are through the roof, and that is selling for about $20/gram.

Once supply catches up with supply, things will stabalize. When medical first started in CO, it was $60/8ths, within 9 months it was $35/8ths. And hell you can find $20/8ths now.

prices have gone up on retail in CO though, as they can't meet supply requirements. The good places are charging $70/8ths, if not more. Craziness.

You buy a gram from the state then keep that receipt in your pocket for the rest of your life.

You get caught holding, you got paper on that stuff.

It will get the tourists for sure. All the locals who smoke regularly likely already have medical cards and get it on the cheap. That's the case here at least
