Westbrook, 25, still has hopes of playing in the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil, sources said.

Westbrook's decision leaves the opportunity for Golden State's Stephen Curry to compete for a roster spot with Cleveland's Kyrie Irving and Portland's Damian Lillard. Chicago's Derrick Rose is still deciding whether he'll play for USA Basketball this summer.

After a season that included his third surgery on his right knee, Westbrook decided to pass on the two-month commitment that includes a July training camp, August exhibition tour and September tournament in Spain.

Durant and Love have committed to play, among others.

Figured he would sit out after 3 knee surgeries in a year.

Hope this means they call Wall in. He should get a shot w/ Westbrook out and Rose also likely to miss.

I wish Marc Gasol would make the same decision, but the event is in Spain this year. :bang head:

All signs are pointing to him playing actually. I think it just depends on if they actually want to risk him getting out there.

If we didn't have KD Spain and a couple other may give us trouble, but yeah we should be alright.

i hope LBJ and some of the older guard hands the baton to the younger group. let KD be the alpha, and send some of the young guns over to defend the r,w, and b.

Has FIBA just started calling it the World Cup? I remember the last one in 2010 was called the World Championship.

Yeah, I've heard some folks call it the world cup of basketball, but honestly that term is so synonymous with soccer culture that I'd rather leave it alone entirely.

I can't believe Rose is considering trying to play..homie needs to not injure himself in non nba action, for the love of the game brah. (I'd be pissed if I were from Chiraq.)
