Have you ever actually played better due to a shiny new set of irons?

Every time, its all about the clubs. No practice here.

Not as much as deadlifts baw.

It's the Indian, not the arrow.
It helps though, especially if the old clubs were POS.

You stole that line from me.

Yes... No question about it. Newer clubs have bigger sweet spots and are more forgiving (for the most part)

Depends on what you're going to and coming from. I've recently gotten back in to golfing...upgraded my driver from an R7 with a reg flex shaft to a Cobra Amp Cell with a stiff flex shaft and hit my drives much straighter and make good contact more consistently. My irons are an 11 or 12 year old set of Hippos and I don't think I could hit a newer set of irons much better than those. I had some Callaway irons as rentals not long ago and they didn't feel any better to me.

I was up in maine last month and played with a rental set, they were the new Adams Idea irons and they were extremely easy to hit. I plan on buying some as soon as I can find a good deal for them.

Tech is always improving so staying with the latest does help
A better question is does a 1000 dollar set of irons make you better than a 300 dollar set?

I say same thing everytime this topic comes up.

I wish it were easy for me to rent and try out different brands. I am 6'5 so I have to have longer irons. The ones I have now are tailored and they weren't done right and some are too short. I want to get a new set but I honestly don't know what kind to get. I also want to get a drivers with less pitch and less flex. They use to have demo days at the driving range here in town but don't anymore.

Not me, I have to get used to clubs first. Get a feel for them. I've only bought 3 new sets in my life and my game way off the first few times every time. I recommend hitting the range and practice greens (especially chipping with new wedges) a few times before playing with new clubs. That's just me though.

How do you decide which loft wedge to get? There are so many different degree's of wedges.

I decided on the highest loft I wanted, then filled in from there. My 58 is my go-to club around the green, then I added a 52 to fill the gap. I was using a 50 and 54 but found I rarely used /liked how either hit so I sold them and now I just use the 52 and take a little off if need be, or play it back in my stance to add a little extra.

A lot of it is preference
I carry a 52 and a 56 which gap well from my 47 degree pitching wedge
Some guys carry a 60 along with a 52 and 56 or some will split the difference with a 52 and 58
It's all on what shots you like to hit
I've never been comfortable with a 60 so I choose not to carry one

Yeah I started with a 60 and was never comfortable with it, switched to a 58 and was sticking the same range shots with way more accuracy.
