Finally got an offer to a fantasy league I've been wanting into for the past 3 years as someone just got kicked out. It's a 12-team standard scoring league. Just did a mock draft last night for shits and gigs to see who I could get. This may have been like the 2nd or 3rd time i've ever done this. How useful are these? Just to see when players are going on average? I realize this may be a dumb question.

FWIW, here's what I ended up with...

they're very good at figuring out where people plan to take certain players.

Now if only I could figure out where my opponents want to take players and not just "people"

well that's the key

this year i plan on doing RB/WR/RB/WR/QB/TE if the draft falls the way i think it will. if WR's start flying off the board a good RB will fall and i'll do RB/RB/WR/WR/QB/TE

If you need mock drafts, you don't know what you're doing. IMO.

So, the mock draft got you there?

I was 13-1 and got knocked out in the 1st round without a mock. Would a mock have won my another trophy?

Seriously, mocks are good for beginners. If you've played long enough you know players and where they should get drafted. If you want legit advice, follow this board leading up to the draft. There are a few heavy hitter posters that are just as good as any fantasy football guru out there.

was it the #1 reason? no. did it help me determine where most players were going to be picked and form a strategy around that? absolutely.

To me, this just tells me more about the people you play with more than your expertise of fantasy football.

In my league you have to do your research because 11 other guys who know wtf they are doing are bringing it. Mock drafts help build draft strategy.

Sorry bro, just not a fan of mock drafts and those who put too much stock in them. If you think I made the # we can bet on it. and we can meet somewhere and I can log into my account right in front of you.

They can be useful just to test your draft rankings. I use them to test my draft strategy. So, for instance, if I've decided this is a good year for RB, RB, QB, WR, then I'll test it and when I get crap for a #1 WR, then I'll adjust my strategy.

I read the thread and saw chest-thumping about who is a better fantasy owner, blah, blah, blah. IMO, practice cannot hurt. I may help or do nothing, but it will not hurt, and there is no shame in participating in a mock draft whether you've won multiple championships or not.

meh not so much. the best strategy is to have no strategy, imo. Take the BPA.
