I know this topic's been discussed as I've read some of the similar threads, but I'm looking for some restaurant recommendations for my buddy's bachelor party this weekend. I'd love to take them to August as this is my favorite restaurant in the city, but not willing to take that risk with the state we'll likely be in Friday night. Would Commander's Palace be a safe bet or is it as upscale as August? Not looking for any specific cuisine as no one is particularly picky. We're staying by Harrah's by the way.

As much as I love commanders I would save it for a different occasion.

I consider Commander's to be upscale. Are you saying that you need a restaurant at which rowdy guys would be welcome?

Also, if the party is this weekend, options could be limited for reservations at this late date for some restaurants, unless you're going very early or after the dinner hour.

How many in your party? Attire? Does location matter?

Walk to the Pelican Club if you want to be loud and not offend any families.

You can definitely be pretty rowdy in The Pelican Club - that place is louuuuuuuuuuud.

Depending on party size, Root might be a good option.

Seems like it gets pretty loud.

Root is a good recommendation. You guys could get a few hours partying in & have a late night dinner when other places are getting ready to close.

Agree, although a few of the courses were pretty meh. Steak/sides are on point though.

Order the provoleta.

It's this weekend.. How far in advance do you typically need to make reservations?? Clearly I've never been in charge of doing so

There are eight of us total, mostly casual attire but can tell them to bring slacks one night. They're likely going to want to stay close to the FQ as a few have never been to New Orleans.

We did upstairs at Delmonico's for a BP dinner. 3 Course with dessert and it was a feast. Everyone enjoyed it.

Even if you could get reservations for 8 at Commander's at this late date, I don't think the food is necessarily going to be the star for a group of drunken bachelor party attendees, particularly with your concern for the shape you might be in. I think Mandina's a good venue for bachelor/bachelorette parties of this nature. Take the Canal St. streetcar there and take it back. Menu is large and provides some good alcohol soaking options to regroup for the rest of the night. Make a reservation. I believe Mandina's has a small room back of the bar, but I don't know if there's a charge for it. It's a pretty loud restaurant and casual.

Mandinas fricking sucks. The food is terrible.

Go to any steakhouse with that group. La Boca would be a good choice.

Root would also be a good choice, but there are always a few guys in a group that will be picky eaters.

Cochon could also work. Peche as well.

La Boca would be my first choice. Perfect atmosphere for a bp and the food is killer.

I like it. Good fried soft shell crab. I like the fried oyster/shrimp poboys. I like the warm crab claw app. I've always enjoyed my meals there. It's not out of this world, but the food is good.

They probably won't get a table for 8 at Peche if history repeats itself.
