DAT: Midseason Awards

I thought we could dish out some mid season awards and grades, since this team has provided way more entertainment value this season than the past 3 years. Below will be the categories. Please chip in with your own awards/grades.
1. Midseason Team MVP: Jose Altuve
so far I think it has to be Altuve. An all star, leading some major offensive categories in the AL. He's the best hitter on the team, and plays a good 2nd base. Should be starting in the damn ASG.
2. Best Pitcher of the First Half: Dallas Keuchel
The Kid still gets the vote after two Rocky starts IMO. He had an absolutely brilliant first 3 months of the season before sputtering a bit in July.
3. The Rid-X Septic Service Bullpen Arm of the First Half: Tony Sipp
While Qualls had an outstanding May/June, Sipp has just been more consistent. Plus he can play a mean Left Field. Lol
4. Rookie of the First Half: George Springer (as if this was really a question)
16 bombs in 2 months...unreal. Swings out of his shoes a little too much, but the kid is a spark plug, and a highlight reel in Right Field.
5. The Roger Dorn Bench Player of the First Half: Marwin Gonzales
Tough call between Marwin and Presley, but given Villar's inconsistencies, Marwin provided a much more productive SS from an offensive standpoint.
6. The Golden "K": Jason Castro.
Some said it was impossible to beat Chris Carter's strikeout totals. Well you did it Jason. Congratulations!
7. Bo Porter--Grade him: C- (only because of that awesome May/June stretch.
8. Jeff Luhnow--Grade Him: B- (I trust the plan)
9. Jim Crane--Grade Him: an F because of the tv deal
10. Best DAT Poster of the First Half: Cast your vote
11. Worst DAT Poster of the First Half: Cast your vote
12. DAT Newcomer of the First Half: Cast your vote

They are in last place after back-to-back-to-back 100+ loss seasons. Bo Porter has certainly cost them games. Hell the only reason George Springer is up in the majors is because his agent threatened legal action against the club. And these aren't Jeff's prospects. Jeff is an F and Bo is maybe a D.

We're 16 games improved from last season to this season. Gotta give a little credit

Can't really judge Luhnow until his prospects come up

You are on the sun shine pumpers list now man. You are done after posting this sacrilige. Lol.
I agree with you. I don't know ow why people want to hold Bo and crane to the fire yet give the gm whose job is to field a 25 man competitive major league roster a pass. He is not the farm director. He is a major league gm.

He gets judged on roster moves and lack of FA quality. Houston is too large of market to be so damn cheap. Fill a damn major league roster. Astros have 4 starters that wouldn't make any other ML team's roster.

Any team whose strategy is wait till our prospects come up is destined to fail. Most prospects don't pan out.

Ban bet for a year on all Astros discussions if they aren't 16 games improved by the end of the season?

This doesn't mean shite with our TV situation, which is not Luhnows fault.

I'm just comparing last years first half to this years.
By your logic, 31 out of the next 72 would cover your number.

How many 90 to 100 loss seasons is enough for you? 6 or 8?

Damn, this thread had a chance to be light and fun

Just discussing things man. Why can't it still be fun if we don't all agree.

A better win % than they have to date. Yeah they suck that bad.

This would be the last season 100 losses is acceptable. We are seeing improvement. We are seeing guys come up from the minors.
I expect the Astros to spend money this offseason. I think we see significant improvement next year. I would love to see a DH/Corner OF bat signed this offseason (Nelly Cruz please) as well as continue to add arms to the bullpen.
