Do you leave your desktop/laptop on 24/7?

On one of my old knock around laptops I used to keep on 24/7. Usually on sleep or hibernate mode. But now i use that laptop prob 3 times total a year now.
Now on my tablet and phone. I'm starting to use splash top remote desktop a lot now. So my laptops has to be powered on for me to remote into it.
So I'm thinking about keeping my new PC and Macbook powered on more than usual.
Would it be a good idea just to leave my devices on 24/7 "on sleep" for long periods of time now? Would it damage my computers in the long run?

I shut my computers down every day. Not sure if it hurts it to never shut down though.

I leave mine on all the time.
It may damage the battery on a laptop, so I know some people who will remove the battery if it's plugged in/docked.

Desktop always on. And I mean on. No standby, hibernate, sleep, hard disk suspensions, none of that shite.
This is my CPU in an "idle" state

I never turn my desktop off, when I do, it takes a half hour and the windows CD to get it back on.

I leave it on 24/7 unless I know I'll be on vacation for several days.

Mine sleep without issue, and they include Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center x64 (main desktop), Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (gaming machine), and Windows 8.1 Pro x86 (6 year old laptop). The main system typically sleeps several times a day and wakes up to record programs and goes back to sleep as necessary. As the UPS will wake it to hibernate, I turned off Hybrid Sleep to save the SSD boot drive from unnecessary writes.

My desktop is "on" 100% of the time, excluding power outages. My other devices (tablets, laptops) are on when they're used. Otherwise i make them hibernate, typically.

All you are doing by leaving it on is wasting electricity.
My desktop with SSD boots in 10 seconds. No reason to leave it on.

I don't like turning my computer off because I always keep like 10-20 tabs open and hate when I lose them.
I'm a tab hoarder

Sleeping will avoid that. Saving the tabs will allow you restore them after you do shut down or exit the browser for whatever reason.

There's help, but it's on you to take the first step.

I leave my desktop on..when I was taking computer networking, the teacher never turned the lab pcs off.. Said they lasted longer if just left on...?

Just close the browser, the tabs will restore. Some browsers by default, others there is a setting for it.
Just google whatever browser you use to see if it has settings.

Please.
Makes it available away from home, which is a big +. He actually states it, but you just decided to ignore it to let the world know you have a ssd:

Congrats on saving those pennies though

Is there any benefit to shutting down a computer?
