What do you guys recommend? Han Solo is my favorite character so I've read a couple about his early years. Are there any other ones? What about this X-Wing series? Is that any good? I'm more interested in the space ship stuff than the jedi stuff TBH.

TIA

I recommend the Timothy Zahn trilogy. It occurs after Return of the Jedi.

There is also Shadows of the Empire by Steve Perry which is between Empire Strikes Back and ROTJ.

I haven't read the X-wing series, but I've heard nothing but good things.

Thanks Scruffy!!

I was trying to remember that author's name. I'd read another Sci-Fi book by him years ago and liked it. Knew he did some Star Wars stuff but was drawing a blank.

not into the books but the Legacy series of comics are both really good. The first series is 50 comics and the main character is Luke's great grandson? Cade.

Another good comic is Crimson Empire. It's about one of the Emperor's Crimson Guard. It shows the back story of how they train and the lead character once went toe to toe with Vader. I only read the first Crimson Empire but there are two sequels.

Republic Commando is a good series, too.

Seconded. The Timothy Zahn trilogy is also called the Thrawn Trilogy and is fantastic. I, Jedi is also great. The New Jedi Order series is second best behind The Thrawn Trilogy. It takes place about 20 years after Return of the Jedi. Han and Leia's three children play pivotal roles in it.

Full disclosure, I was never a big Han Solo fan though - I just care about the Jedi and the Force.

Read the Zahn books when they came out. Solid work.

Will never forgive Lucas for his insane ego keeping him from making those books into movies.

Since episode 7 takes place 30 years after Return of the Jedi and, presumably, after the Empire has totally capitulated (if it even remotely follows the extended universe), it looks like we never will get the Thrawn Trilogy. It is a shame.

So the Thrawn trilogy is the way to go? Do you guys think it will bridge the gap between episode 7 and the new movies?

You mean between episode 6 and the new movies? Impossible to tell because Lucas said that they do not have to follow the books. Besides, the Thrawn Trilogy took place just a few years after Return of the Jedi while episode 7 will be 30 years after episode 6. It covers the fight against a remaining admiral of the empire, Admiral Thrawn, who is Sherlock Holmes/Tony Stark level brilliant. It is a major step toward the ultimate surrender of the remnants of the empire, but I would not be surprised if none of that is addressed in the next movie. As far as a movie-goer only is likely concerned, the empire fell completely when the emperor died in episode 6.

No. Disney has stated that anything from the EU is no longer canon.

Disney does not care about fans, only dollars.

Lucas has no say so. He is a figure piece.

It won't bridge the gap. They came out a while back saying that none of the extended universe was canon anymore.

Sucks. Big screen missed out on one of my favorite characters, Mara Jade.

And even if they did introduce her now she'd be dead or all saggy.

I take it that you are really invested in the extended universe?

What were those things called that could smell the vader on Leia? Assassins that were loyal to vader.

No, not really. I've read some comics and a few of the books (ones that were already mentioned), but my thing is many people worked hard on those stories and fans invested hours, days, weeks, months, and years buying and reading them to only have the mouse come out and say, "frick you. We don't care about your fandom." And with the way that Disney has treated Kathleen Kennedy since she's been in charge of LucasFilm, has been down right appalling. Did Lucas piss fans off by CGIing everything and changing who shot first, sure, but that was one little thing. He also embraced the EU and loved what authors had wrote.
