Hero Motorcycle Cop Rescues Tiny Dog from Highway
quote:
The photo shows a very small Chihuahua, perched rather precariously on the highway median wall, during rush hour traffic on the I-680
The Contra Costa Animal Services out of Martinez, California has taken the dog for evaluation and check-up. Hopefully, more about the little dog will be discovered as police look for a potential owner, or a home he may have wandered away from.
Office Alex Edmon of the CHP said the call about the dog being stuck in traffic came in on Friday. There were reports of the tiny dog weaving in and out of traffic, and this was during rush hour. Not long after that, another call came through stating the dog was now on the divider wall, and stuck there. Police reported to the scene a short while after that call came in and were able to rescue the dog.
“We attempted to coax it, we could tell it was very frightened, it was shaking – we were able to pet it a little bit, but other than that we could tell it was not happy.”
Office Edmon, a dog lover himself and has two furry family members of his own, was the one trying to use some trail mix to lure the dog over, but she wasn’t taking the bait. Animal control had been called onto the scene shortly after, as the CHP officers are on motorcycles, which there is no safe way to transport a dog on.
The dog is estimated to be around two years of age by animal control.
There is still no known reason the dog was on the highway in the first place.
“As of right now there are no witnesses that actually saw someone take the dog out of a car and leave it there,” said Edmon.
Contra Costa Animal Services had posted in a Facebook update that the Chihuahua “may already have a home if her owner doesn’t come for her. When she was picked up, there was no identification tags on the dog and she was not micro-chipped.”

About time cops did some damage control. Good for him and the dog.

I bet someone set it out of their car right in traffic.
Good for the cop.

Using the term hero a little loosely here

Sure I'd call him a hero.
Why not? The little dog thinks he's one. And if that dog has a caring owner, I'm sure he would call him a hero, too.
(but I doubt the dog had a caring owner )
