Seems like it should be closer to the population centers. I would like to check it out but I'm not driving 3+ hours just to go and then turn right back around and drive back.

They want you to stay and see the town for a few days. Be a local tourist or whatever.

The museum is part of the Louisiana State Museum System. They used to have a museum at the old Courthouse in Natchitoches and very recently built the building to hold the Sports Hall of Fame as well as the Northwestern LA museum.

It's a cool looking building but it looks out of place on front street in Natchitoches. I think they spent 22 million building it.

You don't have to "turn right back around and drive back." Lots to do in Natchitoches, bro.

If the population centers gave a shite, it could have been. The HOF had no physical home of its own for over 50 years before the new museum was built. Before that, NSU donated space in their auditorium to display some of the materials, and it took them to 1971 or 72 to do it.

Literally anyone else could have stepped up and provided a space from 1959 or so to 1972 or so and would probably have the HOF in their city.

But they didn't.

It was in Prather Coliseum for years, and was pretty much pictures in glass enclosures of the athletes.

I haven't been in yet but it is a way cool looking building. And as said before, way out of place on Front Street.

If you go, eat at the Pioneer Pub next door or down the road at Cane River Bar & Grill or Mama's back up the street.
