So I bought a jeep with a winch on it. Friday night we took it through some mud and my buddy pulled some of the winch out to help when we got stuck. Problem is I don't have a remote to put the cable back in. Is there a plan B or do I need the remote?

You can pull the solenoid and bypass it to spool in, but I'd recommend just getting a remote

Searchers may but you're going to pay for it. Internet would be my first option.

Not on a Sunday.

Searchers would probably be your best bet.

If you're in a bind I have one you can use to spool it up.

Eta: those remotes are expensive. You could ninja rig one if you're a little electrically handy.

Thanks not a huge bind. I just rigged up some zip ties for now. Looks like trash but best option I had

Is there no way to hard wire it to a switch in the cab?

I never had one hard wired but that would be cool.

Yea. Just figure out the pins on the plug and splice them into a 3 way switch in the cab.

Three way switch rated to carry the load from the winch motor. Mount to dash and splice wires. Be sure to solder and shrink wrap.

Enjoy

It only needs to carry enough current to push the solenoid which isn't much.

you gotta get a remote....

fwiw, if you haven't dealt with a winch before, be careful that you don't kink the cable and that it winds on the spool evenly, as you can ruin your cable pretty easily...

I'm gonna go ahead and guess they yanked on the winch cable

12voltguy makes really nice in-cab switches and also has the wiring kits for them

We ended up hooking the cable to a tractor to pull it out. All dumb moves at 230-300am

IMO I would advise against this. Kids or someone will fool with that switch, and two block the shite out of it.

Wanna know, how i know?
