"The last thing that we can afford to do right now is play politics with our kids' health, especially when we're finally starting to see some progress on this issue," Mrs. Obama said at the White House, where she met with a group of school nutrition experts, all of whom were friendly toward the standards.

More than 1 million fewer students eat lunch at school each day since the first round of standards went into effect in 2012, following decades of steadily increasing participation, said Diane Pratt-Heavner, a spokeswoman for the association. A second round of rules, including standards for school breakfasts, took effect July 1.

Yeah, she might have a little more credibility on this if she didn't have an arse that was three axe handles wide herself.

Her and Hillary winning in 2016 would be enough to send me off to Australia.

Why in the frickballs is the federal government dealing with school lunches?

Where in the constitution does it say anything about school lunches?

This school lunch debate is just like the clean up our environment debate. Until all countries come to an agreement and action on what to do, it makes a microscopic difference in the grand scheme of things.

Eating rabbit food for lunch and eating like a pig when you get home doesn't accomplish anything, unless you have an agenda.

You may need to call a few real estate agencies then. If the republicans want to fight her over saying "let's not have fat kids."

Tag line. "Obesity! Cause Freedom Isn't Free." Cue fireworks and flag and Lee Greenwood!!

My son will be a freshman next year. He's an athlete and we have him on a 3000 calorie a day diet to gain weight. Not sure what we are gonna do next year. The rabbit food they serve at lunch now is totally inadequate.

Why does your son need to gain weight?

Depending on you and your wife's size I would go easy on that. Life will play a little trick on him in a few years.

Plus it is just lunch. You have 2 meals to fatten him up.

Peanut butter smoothies FTW.

Here's the thing. There are children involved in these programs who are dirt poor and who use these school lunches as their one source of food for the day. My younger sister had classmates who fell into this category and she would often share her lunch with them because the food they got was so meager.

The Department of Agriculture allows school districts to apply for grants that allow EVERY student in a district, REGARDLESS of ability to pay, a FREE LUNCH.

The Dallas school district opted into that plan last year.

And yet FedGov STILL can't get kids to eat.

Not trying to be funny. Just find it hypocritical that an obese lady is leading the "healthy eating" charge when she clearly doesn't know how or care to lose weight herself.

She wants to curb obesity, let's see her put some standards on what the fatties are putting in their grocery baskets bought with food stamps. Change that to celery and carrot sticks and see how well that goes over.

Obesity in children. It is a national health crisis.

And we have an obese lady spearheading these reforms. As the poster upthread said she is the perfect example of "do as i say, not as i do."

How about requiring her children's exclusive, private school to serve the same food that public schools are forced to serve? Who put her in charge? Evil hypocrite.

You think she's fat? Huh?

I mean, I dislike her... but she's not fat...
