Any other republicans concerned that there is no one who can challenge Clinton or any democrat candidate for the Oval Office in 2016? I know Rand Paul gets a good bit of love on here but I think he could come under a lot of fire come election time. Is there any one else? What do the liberals on here think?

Yertle, a proven vote getter and a real man of the people to lead the party back to the twentieth century!

If he's our best chance then there is truly no hope for the party. Doesn't even deserve to hold the position he currently does.

I think the nominee will be some governor nobody has ever heard of like Butch Otter of Idaho.

The reason is that all the other nominees have huge drawbacks. Bush is another Bush. Christie has well known problems. Walker is rumored to not want it. Perry sucks. Rand is too libertarian to witn the general. Cruz is arrogant, undisciplined and crazy.

So I think it will be someone from this list but not Walker. What about Nikki Haley?

Butch Otter will be 75 by election that is too old IMO.

I'd like to see Romney give it another shot. I still think he'd be a good pres.

I literally picked Otter out of the blue just to give and example of someone no-one has ever heard about.

If Romney could not win last time he won't win againsst Hillary.

How about former Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels? I think he would be an excellent governor. Mainstream conservative without being crazy about it.

I don't know enough about Daniels to really say, but I have heard good things about him.

Hillary will be tough to beat (provided she is healthy enough to run) but IMO the repubs need to relax their stance on issues like abortion and gay marriage or they will never get the votes to win another election.

At this point in time, there's a lot of similarities between them...

The voting electorate has changed and that was proven in 2012 after we all thought 2008 was an anomaly. Republicans are not going to win without outreach to minority groups and keeping the rhetoric under wraps. Rand is the only one doing an excellent job in that and courting people that are not accessible to your typical republican. He can credibly attack the democrat from the left if its Hilary and paint her as out of touch. He's an ideological juggernaut that's very politically savvy and knows how to play the game so far.

Imagine a young, vibrant and youthful Rand next to an awkward and old Hilary. Yeah.

Why would you ask people who have no interest in the republicans running the best possible candidate in 2016?

Couldn't agree more with this. Clinton's mouth could be her downfall. She says some pretty ignorant shite sometimes. If the repubs can run a candidate who is worth a shite they have a legit shot. I'd just like to have an idea who it is now.

Look I think Paul has done a great job getting his name out there and firing a lot of people up. Is he a true libertarian? Is he for legalizing drugs and prostitution like some libertarians are? That could be an attack against his campaign.

To answer your question I'd know there are liberals on this board. I'd like their opinion as what candidate could give Hillary a good fight.

Is he a full blown libertarian like his dad and Gary Johnson? No.

He's just an actual legit small gov't conservative that's not a hypocrite for the most part.

No, however he's started the discussion on drug sentencing reform and the Feds toning down marijuana prosecution efforts. That's unusual for a national politician.

I'm not a liberal but I can tell you something they know. Hilary is a horrible national politician that's phony and self serving while having all the sleaze of Bill Clinton and no game or charm from him.

I think out of all those considered as potential candidates, he's the most libertarian and the most willing to try reaching across the aisle to work on true compromises instead of giving away the farm to the Dems in fear of the media demonizing him.

Maybe a dark horse like Bobby Jindal.

And Hillary may not have a lock on the nomination. A lot of democrats, including myself, are lukewarm toward her. One rising star that I could get really enthusiastic about is Elizabeth Warren. If she decides to throw her hat in the ring, all bets are off for Hillary.

A ringing endorsement if I ever heard one.

One reason I started this thread was to get some opinions on people's front runner. I haven't seen a current politician that isn't a hypocrite.

Agree on Kasich. He's my darkhorse pick, will hear more about him if he's re elected this November.

Don't classify myself as a 'Republican', WD; but I suspect that it won't be a "candidate" who challenges the Progressive nominee....it will be the EXISTENTIAL CONSEQUENCES of the last 8 years of their delusional policy.

Hell, it's cool out there this morning. Feels great, for July. I can't wait to see Obama shut down the coal-fired electric plants next January...right when the North is freezing their arses off. Rolling blackouts. His arse will be sleeping in the street within the month.

Wish I could share your optimism that the democrats will basically destroy theirselves. I just feel that the majority swing of the nation is going more progressive. Hope I'm wrong. There are more people than ever receiving financial support from the federal government.
