One of the most succulent and tasty things you'll ever eat. Grilled, boiled, pan sauteed, doesn't matter. Do yourself a favor if you've never had hand picked corn and get your hands on some this season.

I love fresh corn season!

Happy 4th Kos.

Our cobs are freshly picked and on a sheet of foil on the kitchen counter. Will be wrapped with butter, a touch of salt, maybe an ice cube's worth of water and onto the grill, which has ribs on it at the moment.

Life is good in the Landmass.

People talk about vine ripened tomatoes being so much better than store bought. I believe that fresh corn is the one thing that comes out of the garden that is the most different than corn bought at the grocery store. My father in law said he did not like corn until I brought him some fresh from the field and he loved it. He had never eaten any that was fresh only tried some from the store. As soon as you pull corn the sugars start to turn to starch, so you have to eat it soon after pulling to get the most flavor.

While I agree on your corn comment I also know that tomatos are that way as well. I stop at Territos on Highland after 12 noon because that is when the truck shows up with the corn picked that morning.

But, as of about an hour ago I picked two dozen ears from a friends farm in St Francisville and will have it this afternoon with my pork roast. I eat it raw as well, I grill it but my favorite way when it is this fresh is a big pot of simmering, not boiling, salted water. Drop ears in for maybe a couple minutes to just warm through, pull and put soft butter and salt and pepper.

I can eat a dozen.

Recently realized this was actually a thing.

For a while I thought it was just hokey, country folks being redundant, sorta like "moo cow" and "hoot owl."

There is a farm stand in Vadalia that is only open a couple of weeks a year when they are selling their corn. I stopped by a couple of weeks ago and picked up more than I needed. I live in a small neighborhood and know most the people. I dropped fresh corn on 50% of the home's doorsteps.

Is there somewhere I can get this? Maybe Farmer's Market? (Darn, that was today )

I don't know anyone who grows it, and I'd LOVE some fresh corn.

Check the classifieds under "produce" and you might find a listing. I know Martini always talked about a place out Highland south, I believe. I can't recall the name of it, but I think it's run by a farmer who has fresh veggies. I know around here, you have to show up really early to get the fresh corn. It's the first thing to go during the season, which is pretty much ending soon, sadly. It's never long enough.

I've gotten some decent corn from Whole Foods. Not fresh off the stalk since it's shipped in, but pretty good especially when it's all white.

This bag of sweet corn seed was only 5 lbs and it cost $375. It would plant about an acre.

I put asparagus in this category too.
