Kayak Racks?

Got a kayak, FS128T. Need to put it on top the FJ cruiser.
Thinking about doing the Thule 883 with a set of Hully rollers on the back bar of the roof rack.
Think this will work? Im trying not to spend $500+ on a freaking kayak rack.

If theres one thing I've learned about kayaks and kayak fishing, it's that you would think things would be cheaper than they actually are.

Cool, found a used set Ill pick up.
Also, found used hully rollers, figured I would put them all the way on the back bar for easier loading. That kayak is around 80-90 lbs and my FJ is lifted a little. Definitely going to have to practice a few times.

I can get my PA on top of my tahoe. It's doable. I decided to just use my utility trailer because it was a pain. It's definitely possible to get heavier yaks up there, just not ideal. Also, when I was at Masseys, I was informed most of the yak rack systems are rated for around 75 lbs. Not that they cant handle it, but you may want to double check that.

Get the Thule water slide and it will help with loading and unloading. I use one to get my yak on top of my expedition. Protects the boat and truck
Bottom grips truck to keep it in place and top lets kayak slide on it easily

weird that I came across this thread, I have an FJ cruiser and one of the reasons I havent bought a yak is because the mounts I was finding were as much as the Kayak. On Wednesday I came across an FJ cruiser with J racks mounted on the stock cross bars. He had 2 sets so I took a pic and went to the website. Here they are right here.

Go to fjcruisersforum.com
Do a search, there are plenty of threads for this.
Eta: pics of your FJ would be nice

I use the Yakima sweetrolls and purchased a basket from Yakima as well. The basket fit in between the rolls. I can load my 85# cuda 14 by myself. Just set the front on the rollers then walk to the back, lift and roll into place.
I looked long and hard at Thule and Yakima before making a decision. I'm happy with what I ended up buying.
Took my first dip in the yak today. Loaded my 4 yo some on the back atop my ice chest. He was moving around and I was compensating for his movement pretty well 'til some jet skis came by. We flipped but I was able to save the ice chest, my paddle, the yak and my son. Luckily we were only about 50 yards from my BIL's camp and I was able to swim everything/everyone back to his dock.
Be careful out there guys.

I use a Yakima rack with Mako Aero saddles. On my FJ. Slide the kayak up from the back. Existing FJ crossbars not strong enough to hold kayak.

Buy a better roof rack for your FJ. Baka rack makes one that fits.
