Saltwater Pole Setup

Need a new SW setup. I prefer spinning reels for SW. My range is around $100 for the pole, reel, and line. What y'all got for a good SW setup?

Medium action lightning rod and whatever shimano you can afford after that.
Edit: buy rod and reel they line it for free.

Is the lightning rod a Berkeley? Also who is they? What is a good rod length? 7'?

Yes, made by Berkley. 7' would be a good length.
They is the store you purchase the rod and reel at. I would go with 14lb test, maybe 17lb for general saltwater.
Oh yeah, 3000 series reel. That's the size.

That's a little big for trout IMO. Pony up 10 more bucks and get a Sedona 2500

I've never used that reel, but I trust shimano. I've got three sienna's (very low end) that still work like the day I bought them after some abuse. Put a $40 reel on a $60 rod and you've got a pretty good speck and red combo. I like 2500 or 3000 series reels (I don't like much bigger) and 7' rods if I had to make a choice. Medium weight. Medium heavy is not necessary unless you are getting specific for big reds.

The 2500 or 4000?
Nvm wasn't paying attention.

4000 is too big.
2500 and 3000 are same size, just different line capacities. Either one is good.

Anyone know a good shimano parts website. I bought 2 shimano sustains on a price error and got a hell of a deal. I'd love a little more line capacity with a 3000, but am not sure where I can pick up any extra spools.

My first step would be to call superior and see if you are in fact able to interchange the spools. If so, I'd look up a diagram of the reel and search the web for that part number.

I bought an H2O real last night from academy. I didn't know that it was an academy brand. Used it a little this afternoon and cast and reeled great. Guy at the counter told me if it breaks, bring it in and they'll replace it NQA.
I'm going to put it through the paces this season and see what happens.
I also bought a second H2O spin cast rod M 7' with the micro eyes because I really liked the weight and performance of the first that I bought 3-4 months ago.
The combo is a little over your budget of $100 but I think I'm really going to enjoy using it.

My range is around $100 for the pole, reel, and line
Shimano 4000 Symetry - $100 (but can sometimes find them for $90)
Allstar Classic - $40 (or wait for Academy's sales of $20 off All star rods that happen about every other month)
Power pro super click 30lb braid - $15
ETA: A 4000 will be a little big for trout, but it really depends on where you are fishing.

I have the orange Shimano reel and it's fine. While I like it I have found no vast difference in quality over any of my other setups. My current favorite is a 9 foot rod which gives me more distance when I need it. I bought it at Bass Pro as a combo with a reel for like $70 and it works just as well.

Do you use a flouro leader?
I usually tie straight on except for popping corks.
But I always have a reel rigged with straight mono on board too.

quote:Yep, I tied the braid straight to the flouro. After a couple times of doing it, its pretty easy. I found to catch more of the larger specks since I switched to a flouro leader (used to go straight braid). I guess they really can see that braid line and it spooks them away

Castaway rod at Academy/Abu Garcia Cardinal Spinning Reel. Line should be free.
