Gloria forgot.

quote:

The infant was inside a vehicle in a Slidell strip mall, with outside temperatures reaching over 90 degrees. The alert citizen saw the infant and immediately called 911. A Slidell Police Officer arrived and used a "lock-out kit" to get inside the vehicle.

quote:

The infant’s mother, 44-year-old Gloria Elzy of Slidell, came running out of the store when she saw Slidell Police standing around her vehicle. When the officers told Elzy why they were there, she was in complete shock and told officers that she forgot her child was even inside of the car.

Scary stuff. Happens way more often than you know. Most people don't admit they've had this happen before (for obvious reasons).

"I forgot" is neither acceptable or believable and certainly not forgivable.

There was one in Houma too

quote:

A Larose mother was arrested Monday after she left her toddler alone inside a locked car is now charged with child desertion, police said.

Cara Dubois, 27, of Larose, left here 21-month-old son in the car about noon outside Rouses, 561 Grand Caillou Road, Houma Police Chief Todd Duplantis said. The outside temperature was about 91 degrees at that time. In that heat, the car's interior would have reached 109 degrees in 10 minutes and 119 in 20 minutes. studies say.

A passerby spotted the child and alerted authorities, Duplantis said. Dubois emerged from the store about the same time and unlocked the car.

She told officers that she left the child inside the car with the engine running and went inside the store to buy cigarettes and pay a bill. Officers later determined that the car engine automatically shuts off after sitting idle for 10 minutes, the chief said.

The child was in good health and released to the custody of his father, Duplantis said.

Dubois is charged with child desertion, the intentional or negligent exposure of a child to potential danger. She faces the jail time of up to six months and fines of up to $500 if convicted.

This baby was revived but may well have brain damage from the heat.

Elzy claimed she dropped off her other children at a friend’s house, and totally forgot to take her 5-week-old out of the car.

I am going to guess that she has 8 kids...probably should have had one of her adult children take care of the baby

Was she at work?

Is that technical for "hammer" because that's what I would have used. First on the window furthest away from the child and then after "extracation", on each of the others, including the windshields. Just to add the aggravation and cost of having to have all those replaced.
