I turned my phone into a hotspot and didn't have any issues with my laptop.

I do a lot of video streaming for my CPA, so I didn't want to constantly be burning through my cell phone battery. If you're not a power user, making your phone a hot spot is probably the cheapest option.

Works great. Love being out somewhere and turning it on. My Wi-Fi Hotspot has a rather, uh, titillating name.

What does it have to do with being a 'power' user? I use up to 16 GB a month through my phone's hotspot and never have any problems. If you are streaming you should have a power outlet available, so battery life is not an issue. Root and load a new ROM... WiFi hotspot enabled. Done.

I can't put a Rom on my phone, I'm using an S4 Active. I'm glad that method works for you, I enjoy my wifi hot spot.

Grandfathered in with unlimited data... It gets a little slower after 5 but it's still usable.

It looks like there are plenty of ROM's available for the Active over on XDA if your are interested in trying to root and load a custom recovery.

That's for the British version. The American version is still locked up tighter than an Alabama Virgin with 15 brothers.
