USMNT question from a casual fan

I don't really follow soccer closely outside of the WC and playing FIFA sometimes, but seeing Yedlin and Green out there today made me kind of excited for the future.
As I said, I don't follow soccer really at all outside of the WC (no premier league, MLS, etc.) but I have read up a lot on the future of the USMNT, even before today's game. I'd really like to follow the USMNT over the next four years until the next WC. My question is how often do they play in tournaments/friendlies/qualifiers/etc. and who is usually on the roster for these games? What else do I need to know if I plan on following them closely?
ETA: I may pick up an EPL/MLS team as well, but my main priority is learning more about the USMNT.
TIA

Gold Cup next summer, and then I believe Copa America the following summer

We have the Gold Cup next year, the Olympics (U-23 team) and Copa America in 2016, Possible Confederations Cup in 2017.
2018 World Cup qualifying will start up for us in May of 2016.

The USMNT will have friendlies throughout the year. Next year is the Gold Cup and we'll probably bring a mix of the World Cup squad with some younger guys. The following year is the Copa America, which we're not usually in but we will be in 2016, against the best of South America, Mexico and some other CONCACAF teams. That should get our best squad.
Then you have another round of World Cup qualifying. This is where you learn to hate the rest of CONCACAF for being pieces of shite.

we may play about 2 or 3 more games this year, than next year we will have a lot of games. (Gold Cup, Friendlies)

It depends. We'll have friendlies in August or September, and have friendlies or qualification matches every FIFA international break, which is about once a month during the club season. Next summer we have the Gold Cup, which is a major competition for CONCACAF. The summer after that we've been invited to the 2016 Copa America, which is South America's continental tournament, which should be very entertaining. If we win the Gold Cup in 2015, we will qualify for the Confederations Cup in 2017, which would be great prep for the WC next year.

Thank you.
Looks like we have a friendly in September in the Czech Republic. What kind of roster can we expect for that game? Doesn't seem like there's much on the line in a game like that. A lot of younger guys?

I'm not sure, it depends on if it's an official FIFA date and what our players are doing with their clubs and where the game is -- none of that stuff I necessarily feel like looking up right now. I would guess that if it's in the US, it'll be a mostly MLS based roster. If it's in Europe, we'll call in more European guys.

Yeah, I'd have to think we will use young guys and longshots. No point in playing our A team in a friendly so soon after the World Cup.

Game is in Prague. I would expect us to try out some younger players to start building towards 2018.
