July 4, 1994, Palo Alto, California.
U.S. lost to a superior, eventual champion, Brazil. Just don't ask Tab Ramos, he got his skull broken by a Leonardo elbow.

Yep, it's almost a good thing we didn't win that day because everything we have accomplished since would pale in comparison. Then again, how many more people would have been sold on US Soccer if it had happened?

I started following soccer after World Cup 90 but that Brazil game was the one that got me hooked. That game, in my opinion, was the one that showed that we could compete with the rest of the world and sparked the build to what we have now.

I remember 13 year old me watching that game with dreams of knocking off such a massive soccer power on Independence Day. Damn was that disappointing back then.
