What are the boards thoughts on the .357 Sig? Is it superior to the .40 Cal?

IMO 357sig should make all other semi auto calibers obsolete.

Ammo is too expensive and not easy to find

On paper, it is. It is almost a ballistic copy of the manstopping champion .357 magnum round, which was the goal.
However, as I've gotten older, and ammunition manufactures have really amped up their R&D - I am convinced now that you can take your pick of 9mm, .40 S&W, .357 SIG, 10mm or .45 ACP (and, what the heck, .45 GAP) - and carry whichever one offers you the best solution for you, from a target acquistion, firing solution and accuracy. The only round you'll have to be particularly careful about is self-defense loads for the 9mm and, even then, there are even a few standard pressure rounds I would trust (although not many).
I'm a big bore guy, but I have a .40 as my ready gun - I'm getting a .357 Sig barrel for it and drive on without much drama.
I'm a Sig guy - how can I not like the Sig caliber?

There is no argument against it. It makes more sense than anything else.
It's bottle necked and hot. Checkmate .45apc and 9mm

I wish you would catch on more than it has I love the round

400 Corbon is also bottle necked and hot. It was made to mimic the 10mm which in turn is close to a 41 magnum, so how why would the 357 Sig make this obsolete?

I can't believe DS meant "obsolete for all purposes" - but for self-defense purposes.
And for self-defense purposes, there is such a thing as "too much round". My personal opinion is that 10mm, 41 and 44 magnums are "too much round" for a pistol in a self-defense situation.
For a bear or moose with no "real" gun available? Sure - I'd carry a .50AE because they don't make a .55.

The 10mm was designed purely with self defenense in mind. The FBI only requested the inferior 40 S&W when they realized the 10mm was too much to handle for some agents. But, to say that the 10mm or any other round besides a 357 Sig is obsolete as a SD round is foolish. I love the 357 Sig, but it is not the do all, say all. Remember it is also extremely loud and can give a blinding muzzle blast at night, which some frown on during a SD situation.

Ballistically the .357sig is superior to the .40 s&w hands down.
However, the .40 s&w is much cheaper, easier to find, and has less recoil and muzzle flash.

I have a glock 23 gen 4 w/ .40 s&w, 9mm and .357 sig conversion barrels that just drop right in with no other mods.

I have a question about this set up - how do you do magazines with the 9mm? Do you have to use Glock 17/19 mags (if they even fit) or do you just stuff 9mm rounds into a 22/23 magazine?
I know with my Sig P229 ( ) I can just swap barrels and the magazines are stamped ".40/.357" - but I'm not sure if 9mm would work the same way.

I use the glock 19 (9mm) and glock 32 (.357sig) mags when I drop those conversion barrels in. They fit perfectly in my glock 23.
However, a lot of people say they just use the regular glock 23 mags and stuff 9mm rounds in them and they work perfectly. It just gives me a little more piece of mind knowing that Im using the proper magazine.

You also have to use 9mm mags. If you want a 23 to reliably shoot 9mm for SD purposes, you also should change a few ither springs out and tge extractor. For target shooting the barrel and mag swap out is fine.

It's fun as hell to shoot, I know that.

Well - .357 Sig rounds should fit your factory G23 mags just fine - Sig doesn't even make 2 separate P229 magazines - they just stamp them all both (and Mec Gar may make those for Sig, as well.) - however, YMMV.
Since the P229 is actually chambered in 9mm, I may have to just try that with a barrel and magazine swap - I'm going to get a .357 barrel first before experimenting to 9mm. (ETA: I might have to change sights for 9mm, which will make the experiment less than worthless - better to get another pistol in 9mm - probably a P226).
I already have a SP2022 in 9mm that Mrs. Midnight is trying to take.

How can a round with the same case and lighter bullet have more recoil?
I'm seriously asking. Is the .357 powder packed like a magnum? I've not shot a .357 sig. have shot a .40 and it is a very sharp and snappy recoil.

I have been considering getting a .357 Sig barrel for my Glock 23. Yall have talked me into getting one.
