Interference from LED tv screwing up my IR remote UPDATED: Problem solved

At least that's what I think is happening. Brand new comcast box/remote. It has a little velcro'd IR receiver that is hooked up to the small box that is hidden behind the tv. Sometimes I cannot change channels unless I hold the remote just an inch or so from the receiver. I can usually turn the tv on and off and change volume as well, even during these periods when I cannot change channels.
I did some research online and found a few forums describing this exact scenario and said it was the result of interference from the tv. Fixes included taking the tv off the dynamic setting and placing something such as a piece of paper or tape over the IR receiver which helped with interference. I've tried these unsuccessfully.
Has anyone else had similar problems and, if so, how did you address it? Thanks

It is a new tv and new remote
The tv is outside--covered and away from sunlight. It tends to work better in the day than night. No fluorescent bulbs are around--just standard flood lights in the ceiling
I'll check it out. Thanks

Flood lights can be an issue. Did you try it with the lights on and then with the lights off?

i have tried that. in fact, the first time i noticed it we had all of the lights off except for the tv and some candles which were on a table away from the tv. it worked fine this morning. last night i couldn't get it to work at all unless i was holding the remote about an inch away(i did have the overhead lights on at that point)

IR receiver came in today. Hooked it up and it works like a charm. In case anyone has similar problems in the future try one.
