LINK

It's too long for a good synopsis, but if you know the story, the guy was a prodigy from Atlanta, went to GA Tech for one year, then was drafted in the first round of the NBA Draft by the Lakers. He got mixed up with gangs, and everything went to shite quick. He is now awaiting trial for murder.

I'm not a huge basketball fan, but I like reading these types of stories. I find it fascinating that the guy had the world by the balls and decided to get mixed up with gangs, drugs, etc.

What is it with everyone obsessing about guys like Toe Nash and this dude? They're talented dumbasses nothing more.
I can't wait for ESPN to do the Ryan Perrilloux story

Did he owe Arenas money or was it the other way around?

I can't remember, but the Wiz locker room was like the wild west.

People need to hear both kinds of stories. Makes the future stay humble.

thanks for fixing. interesting read. I'm familiar with a lot of the Atlanta places/ streets mentioned, including where he allegedly killed the chick, weird to imagine that happening.

I didn't realize Javaris was so revered in the city (and the writer prob embellished some there), but I could see why being from Cleveland Ave as opposed to out in the suburbs like Lou Williams or Shareef, or from a more prominent family like Dwight.

side note: anyone remember when Dwight was supposed to be this super religious, aw shucks kid? then he went all Shawn Kemp on us.

Played pick up with him a few years back after he was arrested and charged.

He played with one of those bracelets you wear on your ankle when you are under house arrest. Didn't know whether to laugh or be scared.

I chose to be scared.

Probably the right choice. Though it sounds like this kid just really had no guidance and got lured into some bad choices. I'm not making excuses for the guy, especially since, like the previous poster mentioned, some of this 'good boy' stuff in the article is probably embellished to a good extent.

I just read the whole article, great read

As a Rockets fan, Dwight seems like someone whose uncle would be a judge and his dad the AD of a private Christian school minus the baby mamas

He had a lot of really good people surrounding him up to the point where he got drafted. I think he finally experience failure for the first time in his life in the NBA and had no one to turn to out in LA... thus got involved with the wrong people and it was all down hill from there.
