If they say 1 minute then why does that last sometimes 1 minute 5 seconds? Sometimes it almost last 2 minutes. If they add second then why not tell us exact time left?

It always means "at least".

It's just the ref and his watch. He can add extra time to the extra time if he thinks it necessary.

Because it's up to the ref to determine how much. And that amount can change at any time depending on what's hapenning on the pitch.

Don't confuse a soccer "clock" with a basketball or football clock.

Or really any construct of "time".

If one of the team is really obviously stalling in extra time he'll make up for it. Like if some team makes a substitution and it takes 2 minutes for the guy to run off the field or some guy is obviously faking injuries.

Also they try not to blow the whistle when a team has a reasonable scoring opportunity. You can't just pass it around indefinitely, but if you're down one and are in their third and pushing the ball they'll let the play finish. Same if theres a corner or set piece that happens and it's near the very end

This. If there's a clear offensive buildup, play will resume until the ball is cleared 99% of the time.

Let's say the extra time is 4+.... if a team is making an offensive push late in the 4 min mark, will the ref allow them to play into the 5 min mark or does he have to blow the whistle at 4:59 no matter what? I've always figured that 4+ to mean at least 4' but not to exceed 5'. (lets figure no stalling, injuries, or subs took place in extra time)

They ref almost always will let the attacking play, well, play out. Even if it means going a minute over the mark. Typically it's not an issue, as the team down will be looking to attack quickly anyway. Sometimes a corner or set piece may extend over the time set, but the game will typically end on clearance in that case.

thanks - I knew any type of set piece would play out past the next minute mark, but wasn't sure on just your average offensive push. thanks for the response.

I don't really get why they do this. Why should they give extra time because there is a scoring opportunity? My only guess is because the extra time is more of an estimate and they don't want to call it that close and take the scoring opportunity away, in case the extra time estimate is a few seconds off.
