Has this been discussed before? England could add the greatest player to ever grace the pitch, Aaron Ramsey. Along with Bale, Northern Ireland palyers...

I saw an article on Bloomberg a couple days ago about this(can't find the link now...) but I thought it was an interesting idea given England's lack of success.

They did this for the Olympics, but it think the national pride is too high in Scotland, N Ireland, and Wales for this to happen. Shame, though, because "Team GB" would be better than England imo

It will never happen. The football associations of England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland are members of the International Football Association Board. They feel that if they combine they will lose their seats on the board. They already went through this with the Olympics.

ETA: The IFAB is the organization which decides the rules of the game. Since it's such a powerful organization it's not in the interest of Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland to join a UK team.

Here' the corollary:
=============
On a similar note, let's (LSU) team up with Alabama and Ole Miss to make a Gulf States Football team. We would dominate! Nick Saban would be our coach again. I'm sure all the LSU fans are on board.
=============
This is why that idea is hard pressed to work.

ETA: I talked to my Scottish co-worker. THEY HATE ENGLAND. He told me that his two favorite teams are Scotland and who ever is playing England. Scottish football shops typically sell jersey's of England's opposing teams in the WC.

i think it's more along the lines of LSU teaming up with Tulane, ULL, Tech, and ULM...

true, but in that case, I think most lsu fans would be ok as we would obviously be the "hook and bull" on that team. I wanted to give lsu fans perspective as to the hate Scotland has for England.

No shite, I was in Edinburgh for the 2010 World Cup. I was in a pub watching the England v. Germany game...I was rooting for Germany and expected everyone was going to be against me. No chance, in fact everybody was probably rooting against England more than I was

Buddy of mine lives in Scotland now and he was telling me how much Scotland hates England. Apparently they have a vote coming up for independence from the UK also. Either way I don't see this idea being practical.

That depends

Rangers fans usually support both England or Scotland. Sometimes both. Celtic fans support Ireland.

The rest of the country support Scotland.
