@BillPlaschke: Shootouts might be great TV and great drama, but they are still lousy sport. If NHL can play on in Stanley Cup, why can't these guys?

Pardon my ignorance, but aren't there shootouts in hockey?

Or did the Mighty Ducks straight up lie to me?

He's right. It's highly entertaining but an awful way to end a competitive game

You just had 120 minutes to settle it on the field. It's no different than college football overtime giving each team the ball at the 25 yard line.

It's a lot more like playing punt pass and kick actually.

Not that there's a better alternative.

Well if teams don't want to go to penalties, it's simple. Score a fricking goal.

Arsenal did it in the FA Cup. Spain in the World Cup final.

It would be comparable to college football if each team started on the 5 yard line

There is no more luck in pk's than there is when a shot hits the crossbar during regulation.

What's funny to me is the same people who hate pk's are usually the same people who complain that there isn't enough scoring and the goal needs to be bigger.

Both teams did a great job making it difficult for their opponent to score. I just don't like the way it is settled. Should have played on until a team scored.

While that is such a fallacious argument, I regret making the college football comparison for one reason.

There is no point in comparing one sport to another because all sports are different. If you can't accept soccer for what it is, don't watch it.

A tie is a true result, the pks aren't really a true result to me. It's intense as hell and great to watch for sure. And its the only real option. That doesn't make it ideal though.

I like the extra time rules. I think they get it right.

I don't care for games ending end in PKs, but I really don't know of a better solution so I can't say too much.

Only during the regular season. Playoffs have sudden death full period length OTs until someone scores.

I hate PKs. I just don't know what the alternative is that doesn't have teams going down players left and right due to exhaustion and cramps.
