My first build has been working great the past year but recently the fan on the cooler master is loud. Any known issue I can easily fix? Can I just not use it?
Thanks

Hmmm. Do you have your fan set to spin clockwise or counter clockwise?

Cooler Master Hyper 212 fan? Attached to the heatsink? No, you can't not use it.

Yes, we do need more information about the loudness. If it just sounds like it's spinning faster than it used to, it's probably related to CPU use/temps. Doing anything more CPU-intensive when it happens? Dust build-up causing higher than normal temps?

Those cooler masters are just sleeve-bearing fans, anyway. They tend to fail earlier than ball-bearing fans, don't hold as much lubricant, and are more prone to the bearing lubricant evaporating too early, which can cause more noise and higher failure. It's important to note the type of noise you're hearing.

You need to monitor the fan's RPM and your CPU temperatures. Also post full specs of PC.

It sounds like it's getting loose, it will do it for a few seconds then not, seems random when I'm doing anything from we pages to gaming. It is an evo 212 and how do I monitor rpm and temp?
Thanks again

Had an issue with some clicking noise, but just loosened some screwed and all is ok.

What screws as I could describe it as a kind of clicking. Also when it is doing Ito can lightly press against the fan and it stops.

My screws were of the part that protected the fan. Seemed as if the fan was hitting the metal protector.

Sounds like the same issue I had.

The fan clips to the heatsink in 4 places, and because of the sound dampening pads on the brackets, you have to apply some pressure to make sure that all 4 clips are hooked on fully. If the fan frame has any kind of give/wobble if you try to move it around on the heatsink, it's not completely clipped on (or the brackets are loose from the fan frame, which is less likely).

Pretty sure those cooler master fans only go up to 2000 rpm. Seems strange for it to be spinning that high when the CPU is idle. Any changes to fan curve settings? What motherboard?

I haven't changed any setting from default, lol, don't know how. MB is AsRock Z77extreme.
Also check the clips and they seem secure.

Just found the AsRock tuning utility idf that would help.

I turned down the fan speed in utility and the "rattling sound" gets worse.

Sounds like it's going bad then. Order a new one. once it comes in, you will need to remove the clips from the old fan with a Phillips head. I believe the screws are under the sound dampening pads.

Spend $9.62 for a similar fan. (It's the fan that comes with the Hyper 212+, but the performance will be the same.)

Or

Spend $19.50 for a better, quieter fan.

That's the cost of the entire hyper 212 though.
