2 million copies of Mario Kart 8 have sold in less than a month

At Nintendo's 74th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders today, it was reported that Mario Kart 8 has sold 2 million copies worldwide in the month since its release.
This comes via Twitter user @NStyles, who is live tweeting the event. The tweet also mentions that Wii U hardware sales are generally "picking up."
If this is true, it's a stellar result for Nintendo. This is still unconfirmed, so we've reached out to the publisher for comment and we'll update this article when and if we hear official word.

I wonder how many of those 2 million were also purchased with a Wii U. Would be interesting to see how many systems that game helped sell

I would bet on a lot. it's no secret MK8 has been a big time system seller for the Wii U.
I've read lots of comments from people that bought the Wii U just for MK8 and they didn't realize how awesome the Wii U was because of how poorly it was marketed.

The Wii is badass. I was pretty pissed boo wasnt in there either but the game is badass. Wii U purchase was great.

Nintendo tried to give other developers a chance to sell their games. Thing is nobody buys Nintendo except for first party.
