Hoping to hit Chicago later this summer. For those who have gone to Chicago with kids, what do you recommend/not recommend?

Kids age ranges 8 to 12...Here is my list of possible visits:

- Science and Industry Museum
- Field Museum
- Driving tour (lake, Soldier Field, United Center, etc.)
- Wrigley Field (tour it if Cubs are out of town)
- Michigan Ave (Niketown, shopping, etc)
- Millennium Park
- Top of Willis Tower
- Hop-on-off bus tour
- Architectural Boat Tour
- Navy Pier

Many thanks in advance...

Look into the Hancock Tower also... probably a better view than the Willis Tower.

Chicago is a great city. Good idea for a trip. Wrigley field is really cool. Get a deep dish up there too.

You've pretty much nailed them, Chicken.
You're the original OT Baller, so none of this should be much of a problem, but for the rest of us, these museums are expensive. Now they're GREAT, but pricey.

White Sox is a nice park, too, but huge. First row of upper deck is farther away from home plate than the last row of Old Comiskey. There's a parking lot where Old Comiskey Park was, but in one corner is a concrete home plate and batters boxes with foul lines, right atop the spot they were in the old park. It's an interesting stop.

All of the things mentioned plus Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL. It has a New Orleans/Mardi Gras themed section. The Berghoff has good German food with their own root beer on tap. They still sell their own beer recipes as well, just no longer brewed on site (or by the family).

Chicken,
Long time
In order of preference for you and the kids:
Architectural Boat Tour
Science and Industry
Millennium Park (check the online schedule-plenty of movies, concerts, etc. Plus, the fountains are great for kids)
Rent bikes at North Ave beach (go early before it is too crowded)
Driving tour sounds painful-traffic is always bad

Continue on and go to Detroit; one look at this place and your kids will know how great they have it and you'll be the Dad of the Century. They'll serve you breakfast in bed forever

After Millennium, head to Pizanos on state. I think it is the best deep dish in the city. I only eat it like once or twice a year and Pizanos is the best option

Recommend:

- Science & Industry Museum
- Wrigley
- Navy Pier is a pain for adults, but kids love it...and you can start the Architectural Boat Tour from there
- Architectural Boat Tour (you can find one that drops you off @ Willis Tower, 2 birds 1 stone)
- Michigan Ave
- Adler Planetarium is underrated

was in town last weekend, awesome city

we stayed right off of wacker drive and it was within walking distance to everything

only thing we didn't get to do that we were really excited for was the architecture tour, we missed the boat by one minute and didn't have enough time to catch another one before heading to the airport

ate and drank a lot and got to watch some world cup at pubs with drunk international fans

your list looks right along the lines of everything suggested to us
