"Now getting stretched out. Ready by Tuesday?"
LINK
Don't know if this is even news (not sure what Altidore's been doing to stay loose) but am hoping for ANY type of good news when it comes to that hamstring.

let me know when he starts sprinting

let me know when he is sprinting cutting and going into and out of contact... Better yet, let me know when he is on the pitch for kick off.

This is good news!
On another note, I cannot begin to express how impressed I am that we could advance out of our group without Jozy for two full games, and without Donovan altogether. I was hating like a mother fricker on Klinsman during the Donovan decision, but will readily admit that I was wrong.

Sounds like they're trying to get him ready for sure. I'm very curious to see how the dynamic if the team changes in this tournament with Jozy in the lineup. Not at the expense of his long term health of course.

I watched the highlights from last summer's Belgium friendly ( btw) and seeing Lukaku's holdup play made me miss Jozy in a bad way.
It changed our dynamic in a huge way, for sure.

Too be fair, they currently aren't playing at that level and I think we are much better than we were then.

I think it has but we can't be certain until we see if it's just the higher level of competition or the fact that we have had to throw out some less than traditional formations.

Lukaku hasn't been all that impressive in the World Cup so far. Hazard is who I'm really worried about.

When I tore my hamstring, the doctor gave me the all-clear to run a half marathon four days later, but I couldn't play lacrosse for months. I was allowed to do a half marathon because a jog without much stopping/starting and cutting doesn't bother a hamstring much. But the lacrosse involved sprinting, cutting, quick change of direction/planting, etc., which is really dangerous if a hamstring's not healed properly.
Obviously, I'm not a world class athlete and not trying to say I'm in close to the shape that Jozy is, and I don't know the exact extent of Jozy's injury, since there are different varieties of hamstring strains. I'm just saying to take it with a grain of salt. I'd love if it meant he's close, though.

Sorry Jozy, Dempsey is our designated jogger.

If Altidore is unavailable for Tuesday, we have to try something besides Dempsey as a lone striker. It essentially eliminates any positive possession and overworks our already overstretched midfield. Dempsey is also way too slow to pressure opposing defenders. Per Mertesacker and Benedikt Howedes, both slow defenders, had way too much time on the ball last game.
We might try to use the diamond 4-4-2 again, with Johannsson or Wondo up top alongside Dempsey. It will also free up space for Bradley to roam, and for Jermaine Jones to attack the flanks.

This is what makes us getting out of the group even more impressive.

Not to mention the miles we had to travel and Bradley not playing his best.

quote:Agreed. I know Johannson didn't do much, but I'd like to see him again. He could potentially find some space to make runs with Belgium playing essentially 4 CB's, but not sure how he'll match up physically with Van Buyten and Kompany.

This is the 3rd day he's jogged. I don't know anybody about hammies and it sounds like from most people that it's a person to person kind of injury in terms of recovery time.
I'll be surprised if he plays but we won't know for sure until Monday.
