His name and years he played? I was thinking Mike Williams but not sure.

The first Tiger all American in football was Gaynell "Gus" Tinsley, who played at LSU in the 1920s.

Technically, yes. Lora Hinton was actually the first scholarship player (1971) but was recovering from a knee injury, so Mike Williams was the first to see action on the football field (1972).

Gus played in late '30's. Later, he was HC.

I remember seeing him at Ben Peabody's Esso on Plank Road when I was a kid. His daughter was my math teacher at Kenilworth Junior High in '75.
