US Soccer Experts: About Julian Green

I just watched part of the Road to Brazil documentary, and they made quite a big deal about Green choosing to play for us. I was curious how big of deal this actually was and what his star potential is, if any.

He could be a big deal, but he is still very young (only 18).
I don't think we'll see any sort of Fredy Adu hype let down either.

If he can break into Bayern Munich's regular rotation, then he's an emerging star.
Right now, he's just a kid that was promised a World Cup spot in return for pledging his future to the United States.

No one knows. That's the reality. If you follow the NBA draft, he is like an exaggerated version of Dante Exum.
He has no significant experience on youth national teams. He has played 2-3 minutes of first team soccer in his life. He has impressive stats in the German 4th Division. That's basically what we're basing the hype on. He is extremely skinny and while quick, he is by no means a Robben or Bale when it comes to speed.
Bayern Munich seems to be pretty high on him in the next year or two though.

ETA Exum really???? I would go more with Unibrow before him... He has plenty of upside.

The Robben or Bale bit was purely about pace, I believe, not his skillset. His point was that Green isn't one of the fastest players in the world, but he's still got quite a bit of pace to him.

I may be wrong, but we haven't cap locked him yet correct? He's only been on the pitch for the last minutes in a couple friendlies. If we want to lock him in as an American shouldn't Jurgen put him in at some point? I would've thought he would have played some in the group stages, if for no other reason than to lock him.

Speed. Not skills or in-game intelligence. Speed. That's the only thing I am comparing with regards to Robben or Bale. People don't acquire world class speed later on in their careers unless they are Tim Montgomery and doped up more than Ben Johnson.
Unibrow was the consensus national player of the year for a national champion. How the hell is Green or any other player the US has ever had comparable to Anthony Davis? Exum on the other hand is a highly regarded prospect, but every scout complains that they've rarely seen him play top flight competition.
These are facts that can't be argued. Green has played a handful of youth team national games for Germany and the US. He has scored 1 goal. He has played 2-3 minutes for Bayern Munich in one Champions League game. He has impressive stats in the German 4th Division. He is skinny.
No one can possibly argue with these statements, unless I am giving him too much credit for the Champions League playing experience. he may have played less than 2-3 minutes.

I believe both Brooks and Green were not cap-tied at the start of the tournament. I'm sure Green will play in a CONCACAF game soon though. Only the world's most ungrateful traitor could suit up for a team in a World Cup when he has a paper thin resume and then switch to another country.

I'm by no means an expert on the cap rules, but I'm pretty sure that until you see the pitch in an actual FIFA sanctioned competition (basically anything other than a friendly) you can still play for whatever team you have some sort of citizenship with. I think even after getting cap locked you're allowed to appeal to change nationalities ONCE, but I don't think that happens very frequently.
