Good to see NOLA baseball legend Will Clark get inducted into the CWS Hall of Fame.

The 1985 CWS with Miss. St., Miami, and Texas was one of the best ones I've ever seen (won by Miami).

Correct. I visited his HS after he became a star. I asked one of the teachers "Why do you have Rusty Staub's trophies but nothing from Will Clark?"

Him: "Because Will Clark was an insufferable person. Teachers and students disliked him intensely."

For what it's worth, my personal experience with him has always been very positive. He's always been really nice to me. I didn't meet him until five years ago, so maybe he's very different now than as a player.

It's widely known in the DFW area that he was an arse while with the Rangers.

Everyone says he's a huge a-hole. Seriously, like everyone.

Remember that Tony Gwynn article and all those people in that thread that had met him?

But he was a MAN.

Lot's of asses were great baseball players- Ted Williams, Ty Cobb, etc.

Nice guys finish last in baseball.

Will Clark never took crap from anyone and was a fierce driven baseball player. That's why we all liked him so much.

I love this video of Will taking on Ozzie Smith AND Jose Oquendo.

LINK

Ozzie Smith is a punk-arse bitch- look at him take a swing at Will's head from behind while Will is taking care of Oquendo.

not really. there are successful nice people in baseball, same as there are successful jerks. From all accounts Clark was a jerk.

Word on the street was that if you ever tried to call him and got the answering machine, it said "This is the Thrill, leave a message."

I played ball with him in high school, my parents were good friends with his parents. Will was nice enough to my parents through the years but he was just not a nice person

I was 3 years behind Will at Jesuit, and he always made time for the younger players, which was more than I can say for the other seniors on the team. He's been nothing but nice to me over the years. I think his cockiness made him the type of player he was. I certainly can't dispute the stories about him, but he does have it in him to be likable.
