Do I have any options out there? I hate TV and don't bother watching hardly anything that comes on except news and sports.

It should be a la carte

It'll happen eventually I suppose. I don't have cable right now. Just use Netflix and Amazon Prime and my BIL's login info for ESPN3

The smart way to go about it, if you ask me.

Providers would rather you "steal" it than only pay for what you want.

Common misconception here is folks blame the cable companies for the pricing and not being able to do a la carte. Truth is its not the providers but the major tv networks who charge insane amounts for rights to carry their networks. This is the reason you get a ton of channels that you don't want or need. Cheaper for the cable companies to provide bundled channels. I.e. cheaper bill. If the cable companies provided a la carte it would be exponentially more expensive for just the channels you want. Think of it like an HMO for insurance.

Man I wish there was a way to do this. My bill is $117/month. I would probably be willing to pay $80 just for ESPN and Golf Channel.

Regardless of who is responsible, they can suck a dick.

I never blamed the cable companies. I just proposed what should be.

I'm not saying you did, just saying a lot of people do.

I don't blame the cable companies either... but... tech is different these days. I think the providers could certainly say they will offer their channels online - seperate from cable companies offering them. This would be a boon for a channel like ESPN... because most people who cut the cable would still want ESPN.
