Searched but did not find
quote:

he proposed city of St. George has found itself in the uncomfortable glow of the national spotlight once again — this time with a 30-minute PBS FRONTLINE special scheduled to air nationwide on July 15.

St. George organizers, who provided access and interviews to the FRONTLINE reporters for the past eight months, said they are already concerned, based on the title of the segment and the 30-second preview, that it is painting them in an fair light.

The segment is called “Separate and Unequal,” and is billed as a documentary about education, class and race in America.

“School segregation is making a comeback, sixty years after the Supreme Court declared separate schools for black and white children unconstitutional,” a press release for the show says. “What’s behind the growing racial divide in America schools — and what’s the legacy of Brown v. the Board of Education?”

St. George spokesman Lionel Rainey said the previews unfairly paint the issue as a racial one.

They should've expected that when they agreed to take part. Shock reporting is the name of the game nowadays, boys and girls.

I agree that it is a crap tactic, but they should've expected this.

Trust no one when it comes to politics or the media.

Maybe FRONTLINE can shed some light on where the new city of St. George would have separate black and white schools. Or for that matter, since segregation is apparently making such a comeback, where the new city would have separate white and black ANYTHING

Maybe they're assuming a genocide of Gardere as part of this.

Frontline generally does a pretty fantastic job on reporting issues...they don't do hack pieces or politically motivated attacks.

I'm confident they will present both side until proven otherwise...maybe it will happen during this epside. I doubt it.

The fact that they actually thought they would receive fair treatment from Frontline is enough to discredit any of them as potential leaders of a city.

I know nothing about St. George, but I think the piece is probably going to be about how we as a country have segregated ourselves not by laws but by our own volition. For the most part we've created our own boroughs black/white/hispanic. We all know that urban whites have pretty much abandoned the public school system - understandably and we all know that the only public schools with any significant # of whites are in the mostly white suburbs - understandably. So where did Brown v. Board of Education really get us? I think it's an interesting topic. Frontline is a serious show.

Actually, if it was only Brown, it would not have gotten this bad. All Brown said was: you cannot have legal segregation of public schools.

It was in later cases (e.g., Swann v. Mecklenburg) when the Court ordered INTEGRATION of schools that it started going to shite.

if any news organization is going to do a special, be critical but fair, its going to be frontline.

they crucify everyone. They don't do "nice" pieces, and they never have.

Anyone know when it airs?

And agree with udtiger. Court ordered integration (via busing) is the court system's interference with being a legislative AND executive branch agency and was (in most cases) a horribly failed experiment at children's expense. It did not integrate and it did not help minority children (in general).

Path to hell, intentions and all that.

This right here. It's as if they were born yesterday. Clearly they are new to the whole politics and media thing in 2014. Frontline will take the race angle and sprint with it.

Riiiiight. If they would have declined PBS the headline would have been "racist st.George organizers deny PBS access"!

Then, White is featured in an on-camera interview saying, “We have an African-American president. They achieved their goal, who can say we’re not desegregated?”

What a fricking moron. I don't care what side you are on, that is pure stupidity to give that statement. It looks like he actually thought that out, and thought that was a good thing to say.
