Trying to settle a debate. I think there would be plenty room for ice.
4 quarters
Backstraps
tenderloin
Neck meat
What says the OB..

Depends on the size of the elk, a small cow perhaps but I doubt you'd fit a larger bull.

If you are able to fit it, I don't see how you would have enough room for ice. You might have enough space to cover it, but I don't think you would be able to effectively chill it.
If there are other options, I would explore those.
Just my 2 cents.

Looks like he's going to have to borrow a friends major ice chest. 420 quart should do.

I wouldn't know. One thing on my bucket list to take.

2 elk will fit quartered into 3 150qt ice chests. So Yea I would think 1 could fit into a 250.

Best way to get elk home assuming driving I have found is as follows....
Kill elk, cut up elk....
Run to wal mart or the like, buy a deep freezer, fill deep freezer with elk, plug in while in back of pick up. Freeze elk solid, drive home, with duct tape over lid and around seals. If you stop the night plug elk back in at next motel. When you arrive home you have frozen elk without the expense of ice nor hauling up 3-4 ice chests empty. Then sell deep freeze as new when home and you are in the $$.
I have done this six times now it works like a charm!

Haven't done that but have stuffed a shite load of meat into one deep freezer before! Stinky clothes wouldn't be a bad idea!
