The Memphis Grizzlies and forward Zach Randolph have reached an impasse in contract extension talks and the two-time All-Star forward is thinking seriously about triggering his early termination option and becoming a free agent, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Randolph's agent, Raymond Brothers, has been in steady talks with general manager Chris Wallace and Grizzlies ownership for several weeks, but the sides have dug in recently and held firm – specifically on the length and money of the deal, sources said.

Memphis has held firm on a three-year extension, but Randolph has preferred the security of four years, league sources said.

Randolph, 32, has until June 30 to trigger a $16.5 million player option on the final season of his contract. If he opts out, he can become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

Yahoo.

Z-Bo bout to hit the market.

I know y'all can't hear or see me right now, but I just sighed out loud in my office reading that.

Please don't leave Z-Bo. Four years is too long.

Shocker. The owner seems so stable.

Do it, Z-Bo, for your own sake.

Come on Grizz, blow that roster up. We know that owner of yours is a baller.

Send Gasol to the Pels for Eric Gordon and the owner can suit up for yall.

He's gotta opt out to sign a new contract with the Griz anyway, and I'm sure they'll work something out.

Regardless, he'll be the first Griz to get his jersey retired. He's been the face of the franchise since he's been here and has shaped it going forward and his work off the court in the community has been incredible.

He was one of only 9 players to put up double digit pts and rebs last year. I can see some team paying him 4/40mil.

It may be worth it to him to get a longer contract with less money per year.

So he may opt out of 16.5 these next two years and sign a contract for 13 over the next 4-5. Its a more lucrative contract long term. Not saying this is whats going to happen, but its just an example.

NFL players do this alot.

No he isn't. He has said multiple times he wants to retire as a Grizzly, his family is here, and he is big part of the community.

They've just hit a snag in contract negotiations. It happens. Zbo apparently wants 4 years and we want to give him 3.

Most over exaggerated thing. The guy fired a CEO who has had two just as short stints with Sacremento and Philly.

Everyone else in the franchise is still in place.

Would anybody give him over 10 for more than 2 years? I like the guy, but he is old and still a head case (He just cost his team a playoff series by throwing that punch)..

Or he can finish out the contract and sign another one and max out his potential earnings over the end of his career

NBA isn't like nfl contracts

easily IMO. prob $20 mil over 2. anything over that gets a little dicey.

Zbo's game ages well because he has never relied on his athleticism. The biggest drop off in his game has been on the defensive end. He can guard your regular back to the basket 4's, but struggles against many of the stretch 4's in the league.

His agent is about to come on the radio here in a bit, so we will probably know more in a bit.

It was always assumed that Zbo was going to opt out for more years. The disagreement seems to be on just how many years.

his offensive numbers are down across the board the last 2 years, by a nice margin. That's almost a trend. Give it one more year to judge for sure.

1) Ownership just initiated an internal coup a month ago. You and Zach Randolph have no idea what's going to happen next.

2) You have relatively new management who fit the money ball mold and may think Pau Gasol for 2 years > Randolph for 4
