Can Apple TV mirror your Macbook straight to the tv?

See above. It's MacBook model dependent. I believe if you have an older, unsupported model you could buy AirParrot and be able to do the same thing (haven't tried it, but i have read good things)

Not difficult at all. Just have to be same network. Then hit the airplay thing in top right and click on your Apple TV boom on screen

I have one of the ones too old to mirror, so i use a chromecast to mirror when i need to

I'm gonna have the Apple TV and direct tv box in an open space behind the tv so you won't be able to see any wires. Wanna give it a cleaner look in the living room

Can Apple TV read my laptop being that far away?

So long as they are both on your home network, you will not have an issue. It has nothing to do with how far the laptop and the AppleTV are from each other.
