I have DTV, at my old house tge guy said I could not use a splitter in line as he proceeded to charge me for 2 lines into my house. Now at my new house they have an 8 port splitter in line at my house coming straight off my dish. It then enters my house and goes to seperate rooms from the 8 port splitter. Can I cut and connectorize one of those existing lines and feed it to a splitter with two feeds coming off....one to carry on the old path as before and to terminate at a new port for my tv in my new sunroom? I would just take a Genie out of my "guest"bedroom.

I'm not sure, but it might deplete the signal too much

You can't run one back to the 8-way?

Nope, sorry. That splitter you see is actually a multiplexer. It is actually demultiplexing the signal from the satellite LNBs. In older installations, the LNBs on the dish were single channel which meant a single line had to be run for each box, so the guy may have been right or just lazy/stupid depending on your setup.

**edit**

You might can replace it with a larger multiplexer, depending on your setup

I do exactly that with Dish.

I have one receiver and 4 TVs...2 pairs can only watch the same channel. But, I have them split/paired and see no issues.

With my Dish, only one "channel" is HD, so one pair is not HD. But, I have no discernible differences with matched pairs

Cool. Thanks everyone. I do have one port left open. I wasn't sure if there was just a channel feed or that the issue would be due to signal/db loss on the new feed cable. I will just have to get up into the attic crawl space along my roof and do a drop from the "multiplexer" to what will be my new outlet box. I have to get up there anyway and run some Romex over to make a new outlet for the TV anyway. Thanks again.
