Is there something special going on that weekend other than it being a holiday weekend? The city is booked solid which seems odd sense I thought everybody would be at the beach.

You don't want to be in Nola on that weekend. Trust me.

Didn't even realize, was bad enough we got a room for my Birthday, which was on the same weekend as the Bayou classic.

Plus it's hot as balls, not the best time to visit NOLA.

My son is a WWII buff and we were going to go see the new Pacific part of the museum, the aquarium, and basically just eat a lot.

Oh well

I've made the mistake and gone down there for both occasions. The crowds were completely different for Essence.
The thugs come out for the Classic.
It was mainly young professionals for Essence.

We stayed away from the Convention Center area, and didn't have any problems.
4th of July Fireworks in NOLA are amazing.
They have two barges - one down by the Convention Center, and another near Jax Brewery. We watched from the park in front of the aqairium. They had a live orchestra out there playing the usual 4th tunes

Honestly, the Essence crowd is a pretty good group and they def. will not be around the WWII museum and such in case you are scared of getting the kooties.

Seriously, it is hot as balls down here July through September.

Not that at all. Not a room to be found in the city that's not $800 a night.

The essence fest crowd really isn't that bad. But just like any other event it will make things more congested and higher hotel rates.

Both are bad weekends for the service industry.

Essence Fest is fine. Anyone who says don't come to NOLA that weekend because of Essence is an ignorant hillbilly.

Tons of cools stuff happens in NOLA over the 4th...with that said, it'll be hot.
