IRS Commissioner John Koskinen is in the spotlight as he is set to further testify to Congress regarding the IRS targeting of conservative groups. It is important to remember that Koskinen has shelled out nearly $100,000 to Democratic candidates and groups.

quote:

Koskinen has been a reliable donor over the years, contributing a total of $19,000 to the Democratic National Committee from 1988 to 2008. He has made a contribution to the Democratic candidate for president in each election since 1980, including $2,300 to Obama in 2008, and $5000 to Obama in 2012.

Just another disinterested public servant under partisan attack.

Seems to me if Obama was truly interested, which he's not, about this case that he would appoint someone with a Rep. background. Then it would be interesting to see if the Dems throw the heat and the Reps toss up the softballs.

Sometimes I wonder if you people ever think about what you're reading in the conservative sewer of a blogosphere. The man has given $100,000 to various democratic candidates over a period of forty years. That's $2500 a year, hardly what I would call a major donor. Hell, by that measure I would almost qualify as a major donor. And it's sure not enough to buy him a job as the IRS commish.

Well if he had anything to do with the lost emails, he's a time traveler. He's only been working there since August.

So do people who work for the federal government lose their right to political speech and to support whomever they want to get elected?

I think this is a reach.

Where did I ever insinuate that he had anything to do with Lerner losing her emails?

Hardly. I would never say anything of the sort. I do think, though, that it's incredibly disingenuous to appoint a loyal democrat donor to head an agency in the midst of an investigation into its political efforts against conservative groups. Surely objective partisans on both sides would concede as much.

If I ever said that he shouldn't be allowed to work in government, I'd agree with this assertion.

I understand what you're saying, but I'd argue that any bureaucrat who has advanced in his career high enough to be appointed the head of a major agency has played the political game enough to be considered a loyal _______ by the people on the other side.

His reporting to the treasury department, the WH and someone else I can't remember at the time, and not reporting it to the committee at the same time has a distinctive smell to it, does it not?

Not defending the poor optics of picking a major donor in these circumstances, but most political appointees are in some way connected to the administration and/or loyal to the party in power.

If you have $2500 to give away per year on political candidates than you are a major donor IMO

That's a lot of money to most Americans

Patronage. And no, it is not uncommon (for either party). It is the major reason that Iraq is imploding right now.
