The administration declined to make Jennifer O’Connor available for testimony, prompting the subpoena from Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa

quote:

Issa said O’Connor is a key witness because she helped the IRS respond to document requests about its targeting controversy. O’Connor started at the IRS in May 2013, shortly after the controversy broke, before later joining the White House counsel’s office.
“I'm disappointed that one year later, the White House has attempted to block this Committee's first request for voluntary cooperation from a White House official,” Issa said in a statement.

“Before her promotion to the White House, Ms. O'Connor led the response to the Congressional targeting inquiry and she is uniquely qualified to explain why attorneys did not focus on and flag Lerner's 'lost' e-mails at the outset."

The WH will likely want to claim executive privilege here, but I think that could backfire on them.

Issa, Gowdy, and others have been alleging for a long time that this came from the highgest levels of the government and the WH claiming EP on this could certainly give the general public the impression that the White House was in on it if spun by the right people.

Promoted to the White House, huh?

Sounds shady.

Should it sound shady?

Everything seems so shady now my shady detector is overwhelmed.

I don't get this. That's bullshite that they can ignore a subpoena in the name of executive privilege.

Claiming EP pretty much sends the whole thing to the Supreme Court to determine the merits of the claim.

Nixon claimed that the recordings from his office were covered by EP and was able to hold them back until the court ruled against him. Once that happened, the house of cards collapsed.

Somehow, I doubt we'll get that kind of result from the John "It's a tax!" Roberts court.

They can't claim executive privilege on someone who didn't work at the W.H.at the time of the investigations inquiry.

She might plea the 5th.

They may try some tortured logic to do so, as the IRS is part of the executive branch of government.

That's a stretch under normal circumstance, but look at the kinds of crap they have pulled in the past few years.

Let me get this out of the way. I think Obama is a phony and a serial liar. I hold the same sentiment for Holder, Jarrett, and some others in the Obama Administration.

THAT BEING SAID, its getting to the point where not even the Rex's of the world even an say that this thing doesn't smell fishy. Obama and his minions couldn't be looking any more suspect right now if they were trying to look guilty.

I pray that SOMEBODY can connect the dots on this.

Obama could get caught fisting kittens on the White House lawn and the press would cover it in a favorable manner.

Obama is to big to fail.

He is defended by his media and his minions with total dis regard for the country.

The real issue is not whether Obama fails, or is outed as being criminal. What is 'failing', is respect for Law. That happens in the greater populous.

What is good for the goose is good for the gander. And Jindal got dissed in another thread for expressing the sentiments re "brewing rebellion" out there.

Book it. This stuff goes deep. Kinda like your daddy or preacher telling you to be faithful to your wife...and getting caught doing the maid!

The crazy thing is, I wouldn't even want Obama to be impeached now. The msm and Hollywood would just turn him into a martyr.

What I do want is the TRUTH to come out about what lying phonies he and his minions are. I saw a poll the other day that had Obama's AR at 36%. That's the lowest I've ever seen it. If Obama, Holder, etc can be unequivocally tied to this scandal, that would hopefully damage him to the extent that he will be rendered virtually powerless the last 2.5 years.

That's what I want. I want these lying douchebags to be exposed for who and what they really are, and I want Obama to be damaged to the extent that the damage he can perpetrate the next 31 months will be minimized.

But, you guys are right. The media and Hollywood will never turn on him. Just wait. Spielberg or somebody will make a "documentary" portraying Obama's presidency as having been sabotaged by racist white America. They will start by playing Rush Limbaugh's "I hope he fails" comment, and then portray the Tea Party folks as a thinly veiled version of the KKK.

Anybody who doesn't think that will happen is truly naive. Hell, I could put together that "documentary" myself.

Probably true, but not a fair conclusion on its principle.

What I would want, KC, is to once again BELIEVE that my Government is good. That they will execute the Law and maintain civility and prosperity...and that we can all be united like right after 9-11.

Think then...and now. Just how far we have fallen, re trusting our Government. I honestly am not sure if we can ever heal these divisions; Americans are prideful and competitive by nature, and our culture and Media promotes such.

My suspicion...it'll be a 'trial by fire' that moves humanity up to the next great paradigm of prosperity. Or back into caves. Maybe both; but that's off base speculation.

I agree, RCDfan1950. I hope the next President, at the very least, wants to do the right things for America. In my honest opinion, Obama, Holder, Jarrett, etc seem to have a palpable resentment towards a certain segment of the American people. Imo, Obama and Holder have been the most racially divisive President/AG duo of my lifetime, and that's just one aspect of how divisive this administration has been.

it's one thing to have a President in office with whom you basically disagree. That happens to approximately 50% of the American people every time we have an election. But, Obama goes way beyond that construct. He's the biggest phony to ever hold the office, and he never should've been the American President.
