Been having foot pain lately. Podiatrist says it's because I have flat feet and over pronate. So far, the orthotic inserts I have tried have just made my foot pain worse. Podiatrist says I should get custom made inserts specifically for my feet

Looking for opinions from those who have dished out the $ to get custom made inserts and if it helped your feet at all.

When they are prescribed/made for you in my experience they worked well.

Hanger orthotics is pretty good. Think it's on Summa. I paid $300 about 4 or 5 years ago. I have had a couple of guys make some prior to that. They were a lot cheaper but didn't last as long.

Get a friend/Dr. to write you a script and get them, you'll be happy you did.

Where do you live? I have a guy on the North Shore that makes my son's braces and inserts. He's the best!

Make the drive. Trust me.

ETA: Been doing this a long time with my son. Not all orthotists are created alike.

If you are getting them for exercise purposes, go to a podiatrist/orthopedist at a SPORTS MEDICINE clinic. Not all docs are the same. Then ask for and take their advice on where to get the orthotics made. If you legit need them, they WILL work. I fought pain for years and finally went and got diagnosed/had them made. I was literally running pain free the day after I put them in my shoes. The store boughts don't do dick if you have bad issues like I had.

Dont do the Dr. Scholl's route where you stand on their machine and it tells you what number to get! I wore these for about a month an actually loss feeling in both of my hands/finger tips. Guess whatever nerves are in your feet have something to do with your hands. Did the script route and have never been better. I have four knee surgeries though, 2 being reconstruction of ACL and MCL.

Have you tried this? Heard my cousin's friend did it.

1. Get old shoes, take laces out.
2. Spray inside with Pam.
3. Put baggies over your feet.
4. Fill shoes with Floam.
5. Put feet in shoes.
6. Let harden.
7. Take feet out.
8. Trim to size.
9. Put in new shoes.

I had expensive custom ones for years. Then changed the way I walk and run and found an unbelievable trigger point that I hit w a roller.

I run decent distance now w no back, knee or IT band (used to be terrible) issues, in minimalist style shoes. Doing a half in July at 40.

Just my experience. Hope to never use them again. It's been two years now.

Eta, my pod was a sports guy who worked the 96 Olympics, wrote a book on running etc. Great guy but no longer needed, for now.

I hope this is a troll job to trick him into gettng old lace less shoes stuck to his feet. That most certainly is a bad idea.
