Why tie a knot? Just weave a new eye. Weakest point af any cable or rope is a knot. If you do find yourself needing to tie a knot, at least use a Figure of 8 or better. A bowline us a good knot but ut gets hot during use from friction and under a load will just break

ETA: meant weave a new eye in cable.

Personally I like synthetic, but maintenance us defitiely required.

I weaved a new eye into it once I got the bike home, I just used the knot for a quick fix in the woods. Repairs in a synthetic line are much easier.

Link: LINK to video on dangers of synthetic lines.

Also don't kid yourself if you think you will not be injured with a synthetic line when it pops.

Is this for your Ranger BP?

For a ranger the weight from a cable won't be too big of a negative. The fact that steel has little to no maintenance would push me in that direction.

So are you trying to say synthetic is more dangerous than steel lines? you linked a video of synthetic line being used to pull navy ships.

In the offroad and civilian world, as far as safety.

Synthetic>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Steel

Yeah I know synthetic is better than steel, but don't start to think that the synthetic is still 100% safe.

I've blown up lots of synthetic lines under heavy loads and almost lost a finger once.

You need a bigger line.

Il say this about spectra rope.

I seen a pictures of a boat trailer and truck that was launched. My buddy unhooked and someone else at the launch pulled it out with 3/8 spectra. It's extremly strong.
If you going to be pulling a bigger load than that I feel for you.

Ok so what is the consensus of using your winch to secure your UTV on the trailer?

Since I put the winch on mine that's what I use up front. Still chain the back though.

Won't hurt it as long as you dont leave slack in it so it can snatch on the winch clutch as the bike bounces down the road.

Hook a chain to the back in two spots, and winch them tight

I think I'll have some permanently attached to the deck when I buy my trailer.
