Coach Nick Accardo is a three-sport coach and the athletic director at a small school in New Orleans that focuses on educating students who struggle in a typical classroom. A recent US 100-kilometer Champion, Coach Accardo leads both by words and example and his teams have responded with seven top five cross country finishes in seven years. With cracked sidewalks, crowded streets and dilapidated buildings, the teams’ resources are scarce, but they rally around Coach Accardo’s leadership. “Whether it be facility, resources, learning struggles or developmental disabilities, through the guidance of Nick Accardo, these athletes have learned that they can overcome any obstacle and be stronger, smarter, faster and better for it,” wrote one nominator. “He regularly reminds the team how much stronger they are because of the adversities they face.” Coach Accardo has demonstrated, time after time, that his athletes are valuable and he continues to inspire them to become better runners and incredible people.
