Braveheart is one of my all time favorite movies, regardless of category. So I think you really can't go wrong with that answer.

Das Boot and Stalingrad were both great German films.

All Quiet on the Western Front.
Cross of Iron. (kind of trippy though)

Barry Lyndon had some war scenes but it's definitely not a "war movie".

Lawrence of Arabia
A few movies about the African theater in WWII.
Battle of Britain
Katyn

I think there's a foreign movie about the Winter War too but I've never seen it.

I thought Enemy at the Gates was relatively bad personally. It's a popcorn war movie IMO. Wouldn't rank it up there with the others that have been mentioned here.

I as well. I struggled with calling it a war movie but I guess it definitely is. Christian Bale's first movie if I recall correctly.

Very little known event in WWII as well, at least amongst the general population. The execution scenes were haunting.

Although historical inaccurate, Braveheart was nominated for a few awards and was a damn good movie. So, not sure why you were rolling on the floor laughing.

I would submit that it deserves a mention.
