Admittedly, outside of this World Cup my only knowledge of Ronaldo is that he's good in FIFA 14, but from the first two games I've seen of him in this tournament, how can anyone be a fan of him? After every play he ended up on the ground crying for a foul, and he played absolutely no defense throughout the entire game today. It was like watching Dwyane Wade in the Finals all over again.

Is this how he always is? Because I couldn't imagine following a player that plays like that just for the good plays like he had today at the end of the game.

Give me Messi anyday.

Does Clint play D? Say what you want about his attitude but he's far from the only attacking player in the world to not play defense.

He never plays defense but he is perhaps the most skillful player on the planet. Everytime the ball was at his feet today I was worried but he wasn't very good outside of that last cross.

He was amazing when he played for Man Utd. Now that he's at Real he sucks... Every player that doesn't play for Utd sucks though.

Messi is every bit as skilled and isn't a pussy. Being skilled doesn't give you an excuse to play like that.

what international soccer player does NOT do that ?

All that flopping shite is why I lowered the volume and took about a 20 minute nap in the middle of the game ... match ... whatever.

It's like caution flags in NASCAR and the entire game of golf ... really good for Sunday naps.

He is playing at 40 to 50 percent of his capacity. Definitely has some injury issues going on right now.

He is very easy to hate because he whines a lot and shouts at teammates when he doesn't get the ball. Plus he is a stereotype of a European metrosexual and has dated multiple models.

But he is a great player and very fun to watch at his best.

Ronaldo is a pleasure to watch. Messi is better, though.

messi plays about 1/10 the defense that ronaldo does

and ronaldo made more interceptions/disruptions in the midfield today than clint by a large factor

Ronaldo gliding down the field is impressive.

His free kick ability is incredible and that cross today was spot on

This isn't basketball.

That's not his job.

Of course.

But Messi is a once in a generation player. He does what he does through an almost magical seeming skill.

Ronaldo has skill too. But I can't help but feel that a lot what he does comes from size and speed. Which is great of course. But it's not quite the same.

He is there to start the counter attack. Dempsey is more responsible for playing defense then Ronaldo is, and should get more criticism.

Unless he is playing striker position like tonight.

With the ball at his feet there is no one I'd rather watch more, including Messi, in today's game, and Zidane is the only player I've ever enjoyed watching more.

The ability to do what he does at full speed is what makes him such a special player.

bro the only reason why Ronaldo hasn't won like 5-6 straight Ballon D'ors is b/c of Messi (and vice versa)

the biggest differences in the 2 are

1. ronaldo still plays wide while messi plays more centrally now

2. club teams/styles

3. ronaldo is better at tracking back and vastly superior in the air. messi doesn't frick up chacnes as much and is a better dribbler in traffic. there are no vast advantages to either
