The legend would have been 67 today.

Still, and will always be the NCAA's all-time leading scorer.

My all-time favorite basketball player.

I was so lucky to get to see him play at the Superdome in my childhood.

I'm super jealous I wasn't around to see him play. The YouTube videos can't don't do it justice.

His dad took almost all of the film on Pete when he was fired by LSU & not much has surfaced. But one of my all time favorite shots was when he lit up UGA for 40+ & was dribbling out the clock...pre shot clock days...putting on a dribbling exhibiton & ended up at half court with seconds to go. He dribbled to the far side of the court, chased by 2 dawgs, dribbed back across and as he approached the half court circle he turned sideways & unleashed a hook shot, never broke stride as it swished nothing but net & he ran off the court into the LSU locker room. The dawg fans went nuts.

One of the most awesome parts of being at LSU 1966-70 was getting to see Pete play basketball. He was from the area of PA that my family is from (as were many members of the team) so there was that too. He was in my history class first semester and someone set us up on a blind date. I got sick and couldn't go...

He only got so much playing time because his dad was the coach.

But seriously.... If only LSU had intergrated in the 60's. Imagine Pete, Elvin Hayes and Don Chaney on the same team.
